Nice bit of history, though nothing ever came of it, still innovative for the time.

Sadly, I remember watching that.
The flaws are obvious, and some were mentioned (like road closures/changes). And if for general use, the lorry needed to follow you around with your mahooosive collection of tapes, wasn't shown.
For the youngsters out there, it should give an insight into life, not that long ago, before the tech you take for granted was invented, and just how far we've come. And never mind SatNav, in those days computers were multi-million installations in climate-controlled rooms (probably with argon gas fire-suppression systems) not gaming machines in your bedroom, and not everybody even had a landline phone, never mind mobiles.
Who else remembers outside loos, and no central heating? And I'm not exactly ancient. (quiet in the cheap seats, I can hear the snickering and see the rolleyes from here).

50s child, here, Jon. And I remember outside loo's, and some relatives had houses that still had them but, personally, we always had central heating and inside loos. I didn't miss it by much, but I'm happy I did.

My nan's house was lucky enough to have an indoor toilet but no central heating. Only heating was in the lounge and a coal fire. Used to have a coal bunker on the side of the house.

I remember when we first got central heating installed, which was a good while after we'd bought our first refrigerator.
Back then electricity was on a meter that took 50p coins, and if your TV actually had a remote control there were only two buttons on it.
