What would you buy for £8000 that will handle 36,000miles a year up and down the motorway?
Needs Toys
Something where the depreciation has been and gone?
It must be less than 5yrs old,so 2000 onwards is ideal.

yeah, looked at audi/bmw, hadn't really considered jags or lexus, but good thinking.
Volvo?
VW Passat?
lol, it'sstill an idea, but I'm thinking I might be better with an older car (5yrs or newer) than a 6month old micra for the same money etc.Originally Posted by McMav

So it's tyres/servicing concerns only.
vectra..
sure, its not got the best image, but the value drops a lot in the first few years, and they are designed to do exactly what you want - eat miles.
failing that, volvos do have very good seats which make jouneys nice - you shoudl be able to get a nicely specced s60 or s80 for your money
i'd go for diesel with whatever you get.. and make sure it has cruise control
actually, thinking about the vectra - how about one of those signums? based on the same car, bit nicer inside, and drop their value even more..

or.. not been suggested yet - how about a saab?
edit : or something swish - volvo c70 coupe is a good cruiser and looks stunning - same can probably be said of a few other cars, but nothing springs to mind :S

Audi
or, whats that big honda called - the legend or something? they dont sell hardly any cos of the badge, and they plummet in value, but should be good at keeping goign
how about a top-rung mondeo v6? the burble is lovely, they've got plenty of umph to get from 60-85 in top (probably what motorway driving is abotu) and lots of toys, plus they are cheap to run..
you may not have thought about it, but why not get an auto? they make for a more relaxing motorway experiance, specially combined with cruise control. i dont think anything in your price range will have adaptive cruise though.
jagwarr x-type 3l?

Not sure you could get a 5 year old Jag. Definitely worth looking at the Lexus and volvos I'd have thought.
You could always go for a Rover 75 - I've heard there might be a few going cheap
mk4 Golf GTI turbo bit fun for ya...... similar speed to the 182 id imagine....
