Chamoising Technique

Just a quick question:

Is there a technique to chamoising a car after it's been washed?
ie. circular motion or in straight lines down the bodywork.


I've just bought a new one for my new car...and I don't know what I am doing or whether what I am doing is proper!!!

Start by laying out the chamois flat on the large areas to soak the worst of the wet off and then scrumple out any excess before doing constant circular motions

Also, on the tricky bits (ie: around edge of lights/bumper etc) use the edge a bit like a cheese wire to get as much standing water out as poss

If you wring the chamois out into a long line you can 'sweep' loads of water off the roof and front and rear glass, and bonnet

I tend to use a straight motion because otherwise you risk putting lots of swirl marks in the paint. Try and wipe in the direction of the car panel, e.g. down the bonnet to the bumper, and along the doors horizontaly.

Actually thinking about it I actually do a big wipe n then finish the remaining bits off with circles.... hehe

Yup, make sure it's damp and as Shad says - straight lines when cleaning else you could put swirl marks in the paint!

Squeeze the water out. Real old skool valet's use a mangel to squeeze the water out.

straight lines... keeping it well lubed by not squeezinig all the water out......

Or use a new flash gadget with deironised water annd bollox to there shampoo... use a cap full of diluted zymol via the flash thing as shampoo instead

there is NOTHING easier. Rings out easier, doesn't get damaged from it, and no goats are involved in its making.

I love them, and really should work for them, cos no one (except maybe XTR ) loves them like me
