A strange request I know but I am intrigued to know what a piece of classical music is used on Top Gear? It was on tonights show during the review of the BMW M5 when Jeremy 'discovered' the 'M' button
any ideas?

Didn't watch top gear, so don't know the bit you are refering to, but I have noticed one piece of music they use repeatedly is from the score to 'Plunkett and Mcleane', a fairly average Johnny Lee Miller movie from the late '90's.
Speaking of which, what actually happens when you press the M button to unleash the extra horspower? Does it remove some electronic limitation?

you mean to pump the engine up to 507bhp? Yeah, it probably ups the revs and changes timings etc.
They've also been using quite a bit of the LoTR soundtrack amongst others..

Aphex Twin last week as well...
I might be wrong but i think it is a valve in the exhaust, directs it round one of the mufflers or something.
EDIT: Or i might be completly wrong cos im thinking about the expansion chamber that kicks in at a certain rpm on the new porsche
I've watched Top Gear, and I was right, it's actually part of the score for Plunkett and Mcleane by Craig Armstrong (who also did Moulin Rouge, among others). Not sure if the album is still available, but I'm sure the MP3's are out there.
