    Calibra Turbo

Am still on the lookout for a good, fun car to blow away the cobwebs of driving a 1.8 Vectra all week.

Have been looking at several cars e.g. Golf gti, 205 gti etc etc but I seem to have overlocked a barnstormer in the Calibra Turbo?

Performance seems awesome and they can be had in my budget range (under £2.5K). Was really wanting a scooby but can't justify the expense with building a new house etc.

Anyone got any opinions on the Calibra - might even be able to get a 4 x 4?

4x4 are to be avoided - Box's are weak and frightningly expensive to repair....

For 2.5k you're easily into 200sx money - Fast, stylish and most importantly.....

    (all together now)

IT DRIVES THE RIGHT SET OF WHEELS!

Calibra and Cav 4x4 are....as the man up there says......fragile

Which is a shame cos if you got a good one, the Turbo is ONLY 4x4 and has a 6 speed in it...

    they are fast

    But....200SX is more.....well....MASCULINE

    However....if ya want a challenge....

Calibra 4x4 are expensive. My brother had one a long time ago. It is mechanical 4wd. You have to change and match all four tyres at the same time, stuff like that. They are expensive to run, and because of their comparitively agricultural mechanics expensive to look after.

    What this man said.....

If someone failed to maintain a car by, for example, failing to top up the engine oil, causing it to seize would this mean that the engine is "weak" ??

I am passed trying to argue the case that Vauxhall 4x4's (Cav/Calyy turbos) have weak transfer boxes even when valid points and cases are given e.g.

    1. A calibra turbo running 310BHP and on 150,000 miles still using its original transfer box

    2. A calibra turbo going past 200,000 miles and the transfer box only giving up cause the owner didnt change the oil in its entire 200,000 miles

If you want to know more about the Calibra Turbo then have a gander here - www.cav-turbo.co.uk

Its a site on the Cavalier Turbo which is exactly the same as the Cally turbo but in a diff body shell. The main pages to look at are - www.cav-turbo.co.uk/4wd_general.html and follow the links to the diff sections.....

p.s. These cars are now very easy to get power out of.... Plenty of 300+BHP examples going about giving proven very low 13 sec 1/4 miles....

you can 'preserve' the box by swapping the front tyres with the back tyres every month or two
