That sierra did actually cost more than the 5th Gear Esprit. It's been 200mph for quite a while now.

    Hurrah for Sierras

Definitely in the Fred Dibnah tradition, a bloke that really knows what he is doing, using a tool designed to do the job. Great stuff

OK - lets tune a car to get it to 200mph.

Rule 1) Dont pick a car thats horrendously unreliable, and then turbo it
Rule 2) Dont do a top speed run when you havent had it properly mapped (or you'll blow the engine)
    Rule 3) Uprate the clutch
Rule 4) If your going to spend £2k on an engine rebuild, spend even more on uprated bits otherwise your just wasting your time and money.
Rule 5) Don't employ some random muppet tuning company to do it all for you otherwise you'll end up with 2 engine rebuilds, a new gearbox, a new clutch, and a gynormous bill.

I absoutly love the Fensport Corolla - it just looks soooooooo...... much like a 1.6 corolla that wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. The ultimate sleeper. Now that is proper "tuning", take a front wheel drive 1.6 corolla, fit a 2.0 turbo with 4wd and end up with a car that looks like a shopping trolley but goes faster than the speed of light

Despite very wet conditions and wheel spin up to 185 mph a speed of 206.0mph was achieved.

i think the esprit was a silly car to try in. imo you'd be better off getting something with a massive engine capacity to start with.. what about a jag v12? i would imagine with a whopping turbo on there, that shouldnt do too badly to get the old beast up to spec.. it'd save you 18k on the purchase price too, meaning you've got lots more money to toy with..

£35k on a old, 180mph unreliable pos aint that impressive then the new m5 will do 200mph for £60k

Its not a case of doing 200mph, given the right conditions if I hit the limiter in 6th in my cally I wouldnt be far off 200mph, its going from 0-200 inside 2 miles that does it, fact is Rods car can hit 200mph in less than a mile n half so all of you ppl that are even gonna go down the turbo'd busa road can stop right there as you'd get your asses handed to you on a plate... lol
