A waste of a couple of minutes. Was gonna ask a quick question see who's quick. How can you tell there's not a lot of fuel on board?

It's just a 5.1 demo, should be rather accurate if the speaker positions are correct.

Doesn't the engine sound a bit more aggressive with more fuel in it's belly?.

Anyway, yeah I noticed the 3D sound, wasn't exactly intresting though

, some doors closing, windscreen wipers... hmm

Agressive? That's a good ole V6 idle I'll have ya know

Nope, that's not it. If it's gets air down the lines from an empty tank it'll just splutter and stop.

I think that one's mixed to 5.1. Each sound is recorded in a point sorces then put into the space with use of appropriate signal processing. It's more of a geeky point of interesting thing than a 'cool recording'. For instance, you'll note as the windows go up and down the engine sound can be heard coming in, however, that's just a recording of the engine with the bonnet up.

I'll probably link it in the A/V area for the interests of how it was created, I just wanted to see if anyone could hear the lack of fuel

Don't listen to the engine

Software is Cool Edit Pro 2.1, which is cheap and free to try (although now called adobe audition). The 5.1 encoder is easy to play with, but getting good results (and better than that recording is easily possible) requires a little theory into spatial audio thinking.

The reason a car's quite easy to synthesise is it has very few parallel edges (volvos excluded) and is full of padding.

Well without listening to the file.. I know the fuel pump activates when you turn on the ignition, so can you hear it more? It resonates more due to empty tank?
