    Those Honda ads......

...for the new Civic with the choir making the different noises from the car are clever, entertaining and very original.

But crikey, in a 1 minute ad, the car is shown for about 2 seconds of the entire advert!

For a car as bold, futuristic and as good looking as the Civic why don't they show more of the car??

True, but then again I know all the about the new Civic and quirky Honda ads.

Your typical potential buyer wouldn't have a clue about what the advert is trying to sell.

Think the Honda execs are being way too risky with the low car content.

Bit like the previous ad with all the engine parts knocking each other over - exactly how many Accords did that sell?

They need to appoint me as advertising manager - I would sort them out

Advert is available here if no one has seen it yet:
    http://www.honda.co.uk/civic/

The rehersal video is also pretty interesting.

It's all about generating public awareness. Otherwise every add campaign would be a picture of the car in a newspaper with a list of specs.

It's not as simple as 'oh - that's a cool ad, I must have that car' - it just makes sure you don't forget it when it comes to making a choice. Different styles of ad will do this for different groups of people.

My guess is that guess Honda are trying to get people under the age of 65 to buy their cars at the moment by using comparitivly clever and arty adverts to make 'youthfull' 'intelligent' people feel good about 'getting' or 'understanding' them.

Ford targeted a certain segment of the market with an entirely different form of advertising, the Focus RS.

I think the honda adverts are very good, for somebody who watches very little tv, but flicks when the add come on, the honds ones are worth watching, did it not start with the honda in theart gallery type situation, and all the parts created a new car, I also like the xmas one with the any williams soundtrack, impossible dreams....

Public awareness of what? The ad? The car?

"The Cog" won numerous numerous awards and was universally accalaimed, but no one had a clue what the ad was associated with.

If you produce an ad that embeds itself into the public consciousness you have to anchor the product in with that with that consciousness otherwise that ad simply isn't effective.

Honda, the specific car, the Honda 'philosophy'. So long as it embeds itself in the consciousness of the public.

So far I think all the honda ads have been great. Cogs, Diesels, the Baloons, the Andy Williams one and now this one, I've liked them all.

Wouldn't make me run out and buy a honda though.

I love all the Honda adverts...genearlly car adverts are good compared to the other trash, and honda adverts are just great!
Saw this one today and they did say right as the begininning "this is what a honda sounds like"...so you know right from the start who is for unlike some lame adverts where you dont have a clue until right at the end.

I thought it was an ad for the ford focus... Admittedly I missed the start but the shape of the car in ice looked like a focus
