It's a saying. The sh*t wasn't derogatory term. Always used it at work when picking detergents etc etc.Originally Posted by dangel

Cleans whatever your cleaning.
And I have a '92 sierra that's not broken down or even stuttered on me in 4 years ownership. It's asking for a new headgasket now, but i think that's reasonable at its age Although....

you're welcome to it m8
Cam change? Probably be doing another 150K before i think about that, provided I give ti oil every 6K.Originally Posted by dangel
Timing gear needs doing every 100K. The original HG tends to go at 100K to 125K but is replaced with a laminate metal one from the RS2000. Tends to eat TCA bushes in a year, so £30 on some poly parts may be in order.
Not bad for less than a months wages doing casual labour in a gap year 4 years ago.
I've got a V6 4be estate hanging about aswell. The front props are known to throw when they get old and the UJ degrades. Can't fail to miss the noise it makes before it does it tho.
Cossie? Very nice, but that is the expensive to maintain end.

Just having a think. A question.
To point out that seat are VAG owned and that they all have the disintigrating water pumps, I must first own a more reliable vehicle? If I had an original 4x4 fiat panda, would it be false to say that The Ford Maverick and Nissan Terrano are the same thing? Would I have to buy a Discovery 3 first?
Of course, if I had a cosworth that'd be impressive. Do you have to have an impressive car (allbeit the most problamatic in the range with the highest insurance costs etc etc) to mention plastic impellers?
And you can stick with yours if you want. I don't think I asked you to swap in the first place. Come to think of it, no direct comparison. Plus I've not really got the cash to make up the differnce in values anyway and I don't think a Leon's much use to me right now.
You running this thread on your own now m8?
Cam change - best to do it at 60k on my car (different cars as you say - the stresses on my engine are probably just a bit higher!) due to engine mods, although the SEAT official line is 120k. That's too high IMHO and having it go on you costs a lot of money. Cost of change now, 100quid all in; cost of new engine 5-6k.. But I digress..
End of the day m8 you're the one popping on my thread about some car trouble with some smart arse remarks on VW reliability (whilst contributing nothing useful) and I just find it somewhat funny coming from a bloke with a knackered sierra Oh, and no swap was offered lol. Seeya.
I was just intending to point out it's commong throughout VW engines. I did so in a humerous fashion with a wink thing. There are lots of niggles on lots of cars, pointing one common fault out isn't slating the entire range is it. As I said in post #6, it's not a massive problem when they go, but they DO go on a lot of the cars.
And my sierra really isn't knackered, I just can't be arsed to service it whilst it's cold. It's also better if you could pick at genuine fault if you're going to rather than commenting on a driveshaft the car in question doesn't ACTUALLY have (but the cosworth does).
I'd already said it was a common problem in post #1 (thanks), and if you'd of read properly i'm on about not just the pump but the cambelt which is bloody serious when it goes. You may as well change it when doing the pump because you have to have it off the car anyway and it's a three hour job.
Geniune fault? How about it's a fecking deathtrap? lol
