Car 18, Dave Keen and me.
Goodwood race curcuit. Steeped in history, and now covered in my Yokohama rubber
Waht a place, what an exciting rally It's all tarmac, and the track is coned for various chicanes, narrowed sections and some stages were only one lap, others two. But it was superb
Seeded 18th, with only 4 in our class (1600, B) we were up against a Nova GSi, a 106 GTi and a Corsa.
COrsa turned out to be a kit car, sequential gearbox, wide arches, brakes bigger than my rims, and allegedly a tad over 200bhp!!
Our 134 bhp beast now has new front springs We binned the 400lb springs and moved up to 900 pounders
Worked too
The stage times indicate what we were about.
Pug 106 Gti B 05:18 05:03 05:12 02:43 04:58 04:37 02:29 02:28 total 0:32:48 15th Overall 2nd in class
Astra 1598 B 05:27 05:16 05:22 02:35 04:48 04:40 02:28 02:27 total 0:33:03 16th Overall 3rd in class
That was a close run thing, and near the end we were with the 106 and taking time out of them. But the chicanes were, fankly, too narrow for my fat Astra, and the weight (or lack of it) in the 106 shone through.
The Corsa was another thing!!!
What a weapon...I'd love a go in that. We had no hope, it was the car that did it. You should'a seen (and heard) the thing going off the line. ANIMAL.
Opel Corsa 1598 B 05:10 05:25 05:03 02:27 04:33 04:27 02:22 02:19 0:31:46 12 1
Photo's may follow, though they are a tad dull. Got some very grainy film from a digi camera if anyone could host it!
