    Strange car problem when cold

    Hello,

This morning the car started fine, and idled fine, but then when pressing the accelerator, the revs went down and the car stalled.

This happened about 4 times till I was able to rev it a bit, and then it was fine from then onwards.

Aparently it happens most mornings (I'm not the main driver)

Checked the Oil, that's fine, also checked water etc, plenty of petrol, all fine.

    Skoda Fabia 1.4 8v, 62k

    Carb Icing!
Caused by the intake air cooling as it flows through the carb, and forming ice, blocking the flow. More information: http://www3.telus.net/DonsMiniSite/M...CarbIcing.html

Pull on the carb heat! Unless you are in a car and not a plane, in which case you could try some kind of carb heater or fuel additive...

It's been a couple of weeks since my brother Maf was last here so I doubt it's that...

to be honest, i've no idea what a maf is.

and it has been wet and rainy recently so maybe it is the "carb icing" - fuel additive like Redex?

edit - sounds like this: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/maint...t-problem.html

the maf (mass air flow meter) is used to measure the amount of air flowing into the engine in order to know how much fuel to put in - if this fails, or gets dirty, the engine can run rich which would identify itself most clearly when running 'on choke' when the engine is cold.

i doubt its carb icing - this normally happens when driving at high speeds (rather than when starting), and normally on cars with a carb (not sure this does)

Yeah... often having a carb is a requirement for carb icing....

I've got a mate who's got a garage and a machine that plugs into the computer, so I'll take it in in a couple of days to get it looked at. It's probably something that I can't fix on my own anyway

I've been having the same problem with the Mini, it's a bit disconcerting when you put your foot down to get out of a junction, the revs drop away and it stalls..

Only happens in the cold weather though..

Something odd there though as I know of people in the Frozen wilderness of Northern Canada with them and they have no problems..

It's in the garage at the moment, but because it's a bit intermittant, the garage chap hasn't experienced it happening and nothings coming up on computer diagnostics... any suggestions...?
