Question Peugeot 306 - wont stop

Hi folks, i'm trying to find out why my R reg Peugeot 306 Diesel wont stop. I can turn off the ignition but the motor keeps running (but the radiator fan starts up as well). Only way i have of switching off is to :
    a. disconnect the battery (engine still runs after battery disconnected)
    b. turn off ignition

If i reconnect the battery then the radiator fan starts up again (even if engine cold)

    Have checked the following :
    1. fuel cut off solenoid - unplugged connection and engine stops so solenoid not jammed open
    2. ignition switch - fact that still need to turn off ignition switch to switch off shows switch ok - also system goes through start up checks when switch on (airbag etc)

could be rad stat - would cause fan to stay on if jammed but would/should not effect engine fuel solenoid
could be temp sensor - but don't think that is responsible for rad fan remaining on after engine switched off (think that is job of the rad stat). Anyway again it should not effect the fuel solenoid.

    Any ideas??

Have you inspected the solenoid to see if it's mechanically stuck open?

Does it keep running indefinitely or stop after a while?

Peugeot 306 diesel engine won't stop

I've had the same problem on mine - check the wiring harness on the front of the engine - the one which connects to the fuel cut-off solenoid. It has a tendency to fray through at the point where the cable goes into the connector block - I only spotted it because it sparked !

    Peugeots...

wierd problem, but think mine is more wierd. Can anyone tell me why my engine temp guage fluctuates into the red whenever i use any other electrical item, eg windows. Or even why it would go into the red when using the blower!! There's no mechanical fault with the engine temp system, so must be electrical. Any ideas what could cause this and how can I fix it!! I've got a pug 306, 1.4i '98.
