Just heard the police have caught most of the WRC lot on camera between sections on normal road breaking the speed limits. Is it me or is this the most insane waste of police time and resources?.

you gotta linky m8e.... cant believe that.. its stupid!!! they prolly had dozens of mobile camera's there just to see if they could catch them doing 31 in a 30... this just re-afirms by belief in the UK Police System!!!
omg, How stupid. They knew that they would have a fans following, with all the crew + drivers in convoy. Utter idiots!
Just trying to earn the most ££££ in there area obviously!

I saw it on TV this morning. but here is a link to the BBC online coverage of it

yeah but i know its sounds silly but they do have speeds to keep too when on normal roads, why should they be able to go double over the speed limit and not get in trouble when if i did it id have me lisence say goodbie too
errr ? ? ?
im confused
Because they have time limits to get from 1 stage for the other, They want to ensure they make it with plenty of time to spare.
Its pointless exercise imo.

Surely they should let it drop as a warning? With reguards to the sport they do, their jobs, potential loss of earnings and race organisers etc
Depends where it was. If it was bombing down a dual carriage way etc then i can understand, but if its a rally road then WTF?
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!
Real public roads between stages. They broke 30/40/60 and 70mph limits according to that report.
Its a dangerous game the police are playing, could cause the rally not to come back to the UK. Especially if they all lose their uk right to drive.

They're rally drivers ffs, not some essex boys in an rs turbo, I think they're prolly more qualified to control a car at high speeds than the police!
If the roads are not signposted with the relevant speeds then they may have a case to be let off the hook as they all live in foreign residence. Therefore not knowing local speed limits.
Lets hope they are not banned.

probably? Id like to see the coppers do a rally course in their timeOriginally posted by Knoxville

Just so you all know how it works:
....you fly over the finish line of a rally stage, all dust and gravel...you trip a light beam.
You then slow down to a man in a tabard, wind down your window and give him your clipboard.....they note your stagefinish time......and record how long you took to compete on that stage....
NOW COMES THE ROAD SECTION:
The Rally organisers have set a route to follow. The time allowed to get from this stage to the start of the next is SET ACCORDING TO THE SPEED LIMITS.
30mph in 30 limits etc.....
To make it legit, YOU ARE PENALISED FOR ARRIVING EARLY AT THE NEXT STAGE.....THE PENALTY FOR EARLY ARRIVAL IS TWICE AS HIGH AS FOR LATE ARRIVAL.
So once you wind up your window, with your recently signed Time Cards on your clipboard....you take your crash helmets OFF (never wear them in a car on public roads) and off you go, on your Route Diagram....out of the forest track, down the roads....round the roundabouts, through the traffic.....etc....
The problem (and frankly the FUN) is getting to your next destination ON TIME within a 60 second window of error......go too fast and get there early and you get walloped. Get there late and you get less walloped, but still enough to loose the rally
Its all timed in MINUTES....so if you finished the last stage at 2:33:27 and you got 35 minutes to getto the next Stage Entrance...you'd need to be there 3:08 the 27 seconds doesn't matter.......so long as you pull up and get Signed In at some point in the 08minute, you're OK.
BUT TRAFFIC, AND THE FACT THAT YOU STOP AT JUNCTIONS ETC.....means that you CANT DO 30mph average. And its really hard to do 60mph average.....you gotta speed
12 miles through towns, villages, traffic lights, roundabouts etc.....on time.....and dont forget ACCELERATING up to speed and slowing down again....is all LOSING TIME.
So rally drivers go FAST from point to point, JUST TO BE ON TIME.
I'm not gonna condone speeding through a 30 limit with schools and kids around. But they wouldn't send them that route anyway.
I AM gonna point out that a car that can do 0-60 mph on GRAVEL in 3 seconds..and back to 0mph in less than 2 seconds ON GRAVEL....is quite safe at 85mph down a B road, even if its raining.
PLUS.....sometimes the drivers/codrivers have to get out, and attend to their cars.....because UNLESS its a designated SERVICE AREA, no other people are allowed to touch the car. So a puncture change costs 3 or 4 minutes...then you gotta go really HELL FOR LEATHER....to get to the next stage on time.....
Just thought you all might wanna know how the Road Sections were sorted

Thanks for posting that Zak, i was already aware of it but sure it adds to the understanding of the thread.

The reason the Police are NORAMLLY there....is cos there are thousands of Boyos in their own Evo VII's and Subarus.....larging it from stage to stage......
sadly the top boys got caught too.....it'll get sorted Im sure.
If Royal Family can get away with it, and MP's Im SURE the best drivers in the world can eat a slice of Humble Pie and get off with a caution....
HOPEFULLY
