try posting in the cars& bikes section, but welcome to hexus anyway
Just use some T-Cut.
Welcome
Thanks guys.
Its a peugeot 306 and it rather embarassingly overheated in the middle of a busy road last week. Steam everywhere, it looked like it was on fire.
There was plenty of water in it so I think my radiator has packed in. it overheats everytime now within about 5-10minutes of starting the engine.
What do you think. Is it going to cost much?
By the way, wheres the cars and bikes section.
Cheers
It's just here http://forums.hexus.net/forumdisplay.php?f=18
hi guys .. i have a pug 306 1.4 L reg (93) it started first thing in the morning no probs got to work no probs come to start it at the end of the day nothing
the lights come on turn the key to start and all lights but the battery light stay on that goes off with the clock ??? i thought it was the immobiliser ?? i tryed the reset button at the side of the steering wheel but still nothing i got the AA out to help and they came to to the concluesion that it was the starter motor ?? after jumpstarting the car on the way home i stalled it silly me still the car wouldnt start with the key so i jumped it again .. no prob . got home parked up turned off tryed to start again still nothing .. but this morning (and the car hasnt moved all night) i got in put the key in and it started ?? now if its the starter that wouldnt happen ? has anyone any clues or advice on what it could be ( sorry for the novel ) oh 1 other thing it was sat in the sun most of the day so it was warm but over night it was cool ... ?????? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP i like the car and dont want to sell it on
Sounds like the battery to me, no doubt the journey home charged it up. Take it out for a good long spin (30 mins+) and check theres not an interior light/radio or something left on.
brand new battery fitted thats not the prob .. and nothing is ever left on in the car ..
IF you've not got a battery light showing on the dash then I think the voltage regulator on the alternator has blown... so you don't get a battery warning light but the battery doesn't get charged although the alternator still provides enough juice to keep the engine running and all the electrics working.
It happened on my 406, the only cure being to fit a new alternator.
Before you do that though, try just cleaning all the contacts from the alternator... but disconnect the battery first!
And now I've read your post entirely the OTHER thing is could be is a loose earth strap on the starter motor... so basically check all visible electrical connections under the bonnet, especially the earth strap running from the starter motor to the bodywork.
i would have thought that it would try to turn over ??
but nothing happens at all its a new battery and voltage is good when key is turned ??
i been outside all day messing with the dam silly car and its now not showing any problems ??? starts everytime ??? its deffo electical prob but were ???
mmmm never thought of earth strap mm thx will have a look later on tonight
cheers
and if anyone else have any other clues that i can look at plz add them to the post
Who fitted the battery? When the aa came out did they check it for current with a clamp ammeter? (Stick with a big hoop on the end)
he pissed about with alsorts ???
i checked the battery this morning with the the good old multi metre
