    Saab

ok, I just want some good opinons here.

Work have been issued with a load of Saab 9-3 2.0T Hot 4drs at "Lower than List Price" (usually means about 5k under book) and are offering them out. Now I'm not bothered about it, I love the Cabrio, and I'd need a Diesel, but we still haven't replaced the Girlfriends pug after it died, and I thought this could be a good idea.

So, are the 9-3s up to a lot? And would they do a Failed Artist to get to work and back?

    Cheers,
    Hitman.

zakkys yer man, he's got one and sells em.

from what i know, they're basically vectras in a new shell (not necessarily a bad thing - small volvos are focuii underneath, small jags are mondeo, small audis are skodas/golfs/seats) - the 'hot' range is pretty damn nippy (saab have been doing turbos for years) and unlike the 900s of old actually give you power within 5 minutes of you putting your foot down. take one out for a spin - i'd be suprised if you didnt end up with it rather than your misses

does she know you describe her as a failed artist?

they are however remarkably plasticy, my dad has a 1.9TD and although being excellent to drive, its developed random squeakings in both front seats, been back to the dealers twice because dodgy little spots have developed on the paint, the cap from the gear lever has fallen off and the plastic covering teh dails has cracked for no apparent reason.

Boss has a 9-3 2.0T and he isnt really happy with it. I wouldnt be either. Its got more rattles than my 11 year old datsun. Its cheap and rattly inside. Performance is OK and it looks pretty good too. Couldnt live with the cheapness inside though.

I don't like the interior either, and the engine on the 1.9 TiD models isnt very punchy. Hoever for 5k less than it's book value it may be a good bargain. Worth a test drive with that kind of discount. For the normal price though, I would look elsewhere.

Which did you drive? the IIRC 110 or the 150? My dads 150 is pretty impressive, although it is a bit of a scrabble wagon, lovely at motorway speeds though

Why can't your girlfriend (does she exist?) use the RS4 and RS6 that you've got in the garage?

9-3 is a great car for this stage of the moto industry...that because people like Saab and Merc have had to improve volume of production and sadly some of the build quality has gone slightly downlhill in realsion to the 80's and early 9-'s (go ask a few Merc dealers how much they love the last few cars that've been launched....thjen run for cover)

However.....TiD 150 engine is very good indeed.... and 2.0 HOT is one of the best turbo's for pwer and fuel consumption.

Nice seats in 9-3....weird illogical dashboard.
Good stability, boring turn-in (bit wooly)

quite small rear leg room, but a great all round car that looks really nice.

Aero 2.0 HOT is best with 5 speed for fuel consumption, not 6, which is ultra close short gearing.

If it's 5k off new price.....frankly most dealers are doing that anyway with lots of pre reg. If it's 5k off glasses guide used price......that makes it dead cheap

Companies often lie to their staff about values though....so get specs and then find equivalent cars for sale on

you kidding? Mines got loads of traction at pull-off. Current car is only a Linear Sport, so not ultimate suspension of tyres AND I run the pressures at 38 for fuel consumption.

No scrabble here....tell him to be more sensitive .....

Ill admit, that was with me driving, and being a little hooligan ish with it. Was on the tiny ass slip roads to get onto the A1 at rush hour, so i was giving it substantially more right boot than normal , and as i say, i found out later id turned off the traction by mistake, his is a vector sport, dont know if it has uprated suspension, but the ride in the back is very noisy, especially under braking

The 5k isn't offical yet but they usually rip around 4-7k off what Whatcar? Quote for the model they try and sell, which usually does make them pretty cheap cars, and we always get full warrenty and a very good service deal with them as well.

On what Zak said, I would possibly drive it once or twice and thats it, and she's not exactly nigel mansell so I don't think wolly steering would bother her. She used to drive a 406 which was an ex Taxi and died about 3 years before it actually failed its MOT, so I think anything would be an improvement.

We don't have kids, and so the rear legroom isn't too important to us, what is important is that it can be a reliable car, ok for her to drive, not too heavy on the Juice and willing to just potter around. Her old Pug tended to just do her work run, as for anything else my Audis were always called into action.

Thanks for the help so far people, we'll be getting an offical release on the figures sometime next week, and I can put my name down to take one home overnight if I feel I want to.

to be honest, the saab may be a bargin, but its a long way from the perfect car for these criteria. i'd save yourself 5 or 6 grand and get a diesel grande punto or a 207 or something..
