errr ? ? ?
im confused
I hated the 999 when it was first released, but it grew on me...
But i think it will always be the classic 916/996 shape for me...
In that pic the 996 has quite a scrambler look to it, but that might be due to the fact that niether of the forks or the rear springs are compressed due to rider and breaking or accel.
I actually prefer the looks on the 999 to the 996, but then thats because if you saw it from the front in your wing mirrors it looks like its coming to kill ya!
More of a 998 man myself, the 999 is nice, i've got one on my wall infront of my desk and its beautiful.
Just something about the 998
that is just such a sweetass 996 tho
like the foggy domimated one
errr ? ? ?
im confused
But, 999 sounds faster, and like the police are chasing you!
I was following one on my little sv650 coming back from work tonight. It was a 996 I though. I came alongside it at some lights, looked at the rider who had a full-face helmet. Now this bloke looked like he was in his late 40s, blonde/grey hair with bright blue eyes.
/me wonders if he wasn't following the legendary foggy on his way home from work.
I tried to keep up with him, and even my modded twin renegade exhaust system couldn't make the deep burble (and kick in the arse grunt) needed to keep up behind him.
Having said that, I was doing a ton in a 50mph on the A33 between basingstoke and reading. Considering I got nicked for a SP60, I tend to keep my eyes open and not fall into the temptation of keeping up with ducs and s2000's and the like...
BTW, for those of you on bikes after an aftermarket can, I'd heartily recommend renegade. www.renegade-exhausts.com
These guys know their stuff and it's all hand made.
M8 of mine had a Suzuki TL1000 import from Japan with race spec pipes...that made a sound as near to a Duke as damnit, but it was lacking the Italian...accent...shall we say
Thats not his bike by the way, just some random TL1000-ness...
Mate of mine's got a R1. Got it to 170mph and scared himself. Hasn't done it since. He said there was loads left to go too! Reckons it'll do WELL over 200!
although it could of been im like 80% sure foggy aint got a 996 or he only has the one he won the championship onOriginally posted by tfboy

The 999 has grown on me too, it's mainly just the stacked headlights that I hate. The racebike looks nicer. The sooner designers figure out that stacked headlights look crud, the better. The new GSXR1000 and Blackbird look rubbish too.
That said, I think the back end of the 999, esp. the swingarm, is pretty fantastic, better than the 916, except for the exhaust silencer box. I'm not so keen on the curvy look, I like some straight edges. The desmosedici GP bike is a bit too rounded for my liking.
Let's face it, every Duke superbike since the 888SP has looked the rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishnitz; but IMO none will ever look as fantastic as the Honda RC30, or the RVF racers they based on it

Fell in love with the 851 when i saw it, the the 888 just blew me away. After that, the 916 made me go weak at the knees...Originally posted by Rave

P.S. Remember the Honda NR750 'oval piston' bike?
And just for you, a nice RC30...like where the guy keeps it
