I drive a 1980 BMW 528i and my front disc brakes are squeaking horribly so I thought it might be time to change the pads... I started to take out the caliper bolts and brake fluid started leaking out. I tightened it back up and the leak stopped. I tried to drive the car, but too much fluid leaked out I guess and there's no compression left. Would this be a leak around the piston? Is it possible to fix this myself and if so.. how??
Sounds like you got it wrong and tried to split the caliper in half rather than remove the pads?. As long as you haven't damaged any seals then the brakes will be alright after bleeding but if your not confident with what your doing get someone else to have a look...
In general if you don't know exactly what you're doing when it comes to brakes, get someone else to do it.
