Go with the focus, chap. Although not a patch on the Golf TDi it replaced, the new focus is quite a mover indeed. A lovely drive, rather alot cheaper in terms of insurance than the golf, and it's very fuel efficient.
Brum brum
Wots its reliabilty like tho? (Focus)
Excellent, as far as I've experienced... it's only three months old 2 of those months, I've been unable to drive it due to medical reasons.
I'll let you know in 3 years or so!
However, I did ask around a few other random focus TDCi owners I approached on the street/at Tesco carparks etc, and I think out of about 6 or 7, just one of them had an engine problem (in an older model). Bit hard to get the gory ins and outs when it's someone who's probably bricking themselves when a guy who looks mexican when he doesn't shave, approaches them, asking about their car
Clio 16v
Rover 216 Coupe (I've had quotes for under £1900 and I'm 17 with 0 NCB living in a dodgy area!)
As you said, Megane Coupe.
306 Xsi?
Not sure if it's been said but what about a Honda Prelude, I'm sure you could pick a decent one up for that sort of money.
the insurance on the prelude is just silly - i realy fancy one (or a 406 coupe) 23 0NCB £1500 for the 2.0, only £150 extra for the 2.2vtec tho unfortunatly jap cars sting you on the insurance when your under 25ish
but fine when you are over 25 ;-)
I'm 26 with full NCB - I pay 712 fully comp on my modded 200sx
my Virtualisation Blog http://jfvi.co.uk Virtualisation Podcast http://vsoup.net
I currently pay £959 Fully comp for my megane coupe, 1.6 16v.
Im 21 with no NCD. (My first insurance, so hopefully next year it will drop slightly if i manage to get 1 year NCD).

they originally quoted me on a group8 megane coupe. so i went ahead and took this quote out online since it was so cheap. They then realised that my car aint a group8. its a group9 since its got all the toys and full leather. Monaco Edition. but they were nice about it and honoured the first price. About £60 difference between the 2 quotes i got. Nice saving.

What sorta quote you get for a prelude then, i'm not up with private insurance tbh, Motor traders for me and at 23 I've just had my 2.0L SDP upgrade no turbo's or sports cars and the prelude isn't considered a "sports car"
1.6 16v under a grand, with no ncb, is bloody cheep
