    Damage Report

Well we already knew that the old block is scrap but we took the sump off to try and see the extent of the damage. What greeted us was rather shocking

This is the shrapnel found in the sump, it contains one whole big and and almost half of another! Also the baffle has been badly damaged as has the oil pickup pipe...

Notice anything missing? The crank is turned blue from the heat and is scratched and badly dented

    Half a big end!

Hopefully will have the new block in sometime next week (hopefully!)

    Cheers

    Fraggie

I said you wouldn't be rebuilding that engine,
    Is the head ok?

How are the bearings on the other cylinders? - are they blue and scored too? as that would indicate some kind of oil-supply problem??

havent bothered looking, no point the engine is toast

from looking at the pistons though the second piston had been replaced before with a dodgy looking one. This just so happened to be the one which blew the conrod first and took no.1 with it. It had also been honed in the past the the head reconned in the past. Its looking increasingly likely that the cause is due to dodgy rebuilding in the past

Only reason i mention its possible that the camshaft etc could be worn if the engine had oil problems.. make sure you check the cam and followers (and hydrulic tappets) are OK

I love using big technical terms, makes me sound so smart
