    Question Honda Accord Servicing

Does anyone know, or know anyone who works for Honda?

    I have a 2001 Honda Accord Sport 1.8 Vtec

Its due a service, but what I want to know, is what is done in both its normal service and its big service?

The big service, which the dealer is recommending, is around £350 of which i dont have...

What could happen if i dont get it serviced?

If i could find out what they actually do, i might be able to get it done elsewhere...

    Thanks

    Andy

If it's a major service where the cambelt and water pump are changed, and you skip it, you could potentially destroy your engine. I'm not sure which engine is in your car but if it's a B18 (likely) the cambelt interval is 60k.

Try and find an independent Honda specialist as that should work out cheaper

Normal services are just fluid changes (oil, coolant, brake/clutch/steering fluid), filter cleaning/replacement, general inspection of components, that kind of thing.

Shad you right, this is what is needed according to the service book

    Oil Change
    Oil Filter
    Air Cleaner Element
    Inspect & adjust valve clearances
    Fuel Filter
    Spark Plugs
    Inspect & adjust drive belts
    Washer Bottle
    Check Engine Coolant System
    Replace Transmission Fluid
    Change oil
    Inspect front & rear brakes
    replace brake fluid inc abs
    check & adjust parking brake
    check lights alignment/operation
And visually inspect a list of other things

Seems a hell of a lot there, might cost me more that £350 to have it done

Im at 54600 and i missed the 45k service, should i do the big 54k service or could it wait for the 63k service?

So basically it hasn't been serviced for 20k miles?

Get it done. Your oil will be like treacle by now apart from anything else. Stuff on that list like brake fluid is unlikely to be done again at the ~60k service so if you don't have it done now it may be missed for another 20k+ miles.

As reliable as Hondas are, you DO need to look after them still!!

That service should take around 2 hours for a decent garage, maybe 3 at a push, so the price sounds about right for a main dealer (assuming it includes parts). But as I said, try and find an independent and you could save £100

Thanks Shad, I will ask around at the weekend

The car was serviced at 38k and I had the oil changed around the mid 40s

I think he'll have the F18 engine not B18, timing belt interval is 72,000 or 8 years, but yes big sevice is needed and 2-3 hours if no faults found.
The timing belt service is 4 hours without water pump.
