peugeot 206 "Roland Garos" 1.4 Auto

i have been experiencing some problems with my 206. Whilst the car is running and the engine is warm the "engine autodiagnostics warning light" appears and the engine cuts out which shoudnt happen at all and has never happened to me in the past, for an automatic!

i have taken it to the local Pug dealer and they cant seem to find the problem, can anyone help?

need more details, but really the pug dealer will be the best place to ask. You need to get the codes read from the ECU... did the pug dealer do that? or what did they do?

How long does it run before the light comes on? does it only happen at certain speeds/after idling for a while?

the pug dealer said that nothing was comming up when they connected the car to the computer.

the light comes on after the engine has warmed up and the car has been running for a while.

did you run the engine at the dealers and let them see it cut out?

what year is it? how long is a while? 10 minutes? an hour?
if you start it after does it go? does it cut out again? straight away?

I would check the plugs first as it might indicate if its a mixture problem or one of the many sensors...

it cuts out after about 30 mins of the engine running. It is always possible to start it up again and doesnt cut out again straight away.

It is a 2000(W reg). I have changed all the spark plugs, so they are all new now.

Do you think it is something that is expensive to fix?

Yes, new non-french car will fix it

Im still on my first car. Its had some problems but everything I know (about broken cars) comes from my haynes manual, talking to my dad or what ive read on these forums...

Serioisly though, it could be anything related to engine-trasmision-cooling-fuel system... need more details.

Does it only happen when its idle? like when your sitting at traffic lights? click here

Does it drive ok when it works? does it have as much power /acceleration as it should? Any noises?

How long since its last service (plugs, oil/filter,airfilter, fuel filter.. etc..)

When you changed the old spark plugs, how clean were they?
The deposits show how the fuel mixture is set up.
    White/clean = not enough fuel.
    light tan/greyish-brown = correct mixture
hard black deposits = too rich
oily + any of the above = worn engine + slight oil leak

Did you set the correct spark gap on the new plugs if they were not already?

It happens at all random times, not just when its idle. It drives perfectly when it works, no additional problems. Its last service was july 2006, this problem has come out of nowhere!

And yes i think the spark plugs are set at the correct gap.

nope, but might be worth trying some redex in it anyway, most petrol stations sell it. I have a bottle but keep forgetting to use it...

    some guesses
ignition coil, HT leads.. something else related to ignition..
mass airflow sensor, fuel filter, bad electrical connection somewhere..

Also *iirc* independant garages have a different computer for reading ECU error codes, that can read slightly different things than the main dealer ones. Cant remember the name of it though..
