    Condensation/dampness

    (1995 fiesta 1.6 SI)

This is really annoying me since I go to work about 5:30pm when its already cold and dark, then I drive home at 10pm when its even more cold and dark. My windows are almost always misted up **and wet** from condensation on the inside and can take ages to evaporate off with the heater. I always drive with the windows or sunroof slightly open so its getting plenty of fresh air.

When I checked the carpet last week it was very damp, obviously being the problem...evaporates when driving, condensces on the windows...

I put some newspaper down, and it was 100% dry the next day. I drove to work and back (rained at work).

I put it in the garage over the weekend and before I even drive anywhere the floor is sogy and damp again.

Ive put lots more newspaper down but I dont want to be doing this every day. The water must of got in while it was parked at work on friday (or on the drive home from underneath?) so I need to find where...

Also, about 1 month ago I managed to ...lose... 1 liter of coke whilst driving home from mcdonalds... I forgot about it and went too fast round the corner. The problem has been since before september so thats not it but probably isnt helping. I done very little to remove the coke
Im sure this had evaporated too as I checked the carpet.

Seperate thing, but the rubber bits on my windows dont wipe the windows clean as they move, do I just need new rubber bits? and easy to do? (asking since most door type stuff is impossible to do quickly).

My cars having the same problem aswell (2001 Leon S 1.6), it is stupidly wet, and i'm guessing its quite humid inside aswell, cos when i left it for a a week or so, mossy stuff started to grow inside :S, if it were just mist i wouldn't be so bothered but the windows are actually wet, full on water drops and all. Was worse when i was northish (Loughborough), problem doesn't seem as bad here (Essex).

You, sir, have a leak somewhere - condensation shouldn't caUse very damp carpets... check the door & window seals, or a drainage hole in a sill could be blocked causing rainwater to back up somewhere and leak into the floorpan... get it checked 'cos your floor might be rotting away!

I am thinking about removing the carpet, maybe trying to get a new one if ford still have them (being a very common car I expect they still do).
Only I expect it would be a PITA to remove.

I will have a look but I dont really feel like taking the doors apart again :/

I use as many silica gel bags as I can get my hands on

They don't do much though. Best thing is just to use a shammy covered sponge to wipe/absorb the condensation when it's on the windows and wring it out outside of the car.

Never had a problem with damp carpets though - there's just enough moisture in the seats etc to cause condensation on the inside.

Check where the water runs down off the windscreen under the hood - raise the hood and check you don't have gunk/dirt/leaves or a leak or a rubber plug/grommet missing there somewhere.

I heard that a blocked air vent can cause steamed windows. Although it sounds unlikely in this case

THe spare wheel well as well, the inside of that gets soaked on the gfs. Once had to spray half a can of antifreeze in it cos it had frozen the spare in place. Thank god for aluminum cars eh?

Spare wheel is bolted underneath the car (which will be an incredible pita should I need to use it). Acctually its about time I checked its not been nicked. Boot is compleatly dry.

In the short time - get yourself a squeegy £1.59 from Tesco Gets the condensation off the windscreen better than a smeary cloth does

I had one, which now needs replacing, since my dad tricked me into using de-icer on the inside of the window, leaving nice smears every time I use it (in my defence - it doesnt make any smears when you spray it on the outside!!)

I got some new rubber bits for outside the windows, so they clean properly, cost £15 for two but I will probably spend hours tomorrow working out how to get the mirrors back on..

Being a 1995 Fiesta I assume its a MK3. In which case its quite likely to be ortten somewhere letting the damp in. Geting the carpet out of one isn't actually that difficult.
Get the seats and the trim out and its obvious how to remove the carpet.
I was going to sayu usefull stuff here but I've forgot a I'm p1ssed

I'll post someting more helpfull tomorrow
