Timing belts aren't that difficult. Just make absolutely sure that you line up the timing maks perfectly. If you aren't sure if it's right it probably isn't, do it again.

You'll probably need a puller of some sort to remove the alternator pulley off the crankshaft, they tend to be a very tight fit as it's the friction between the faces as opposed to the keyway that actually drives the pulley. The keyway is there to stop the surfaces welding together if it were to slip.

Apart from that the best advice i can give you is just take your time and be totally methodical about what you do.

Changing timing belt and getting it set right is easy as a simple test tells you if you're gonna have problems - Once fitted, turn the engine over by hand i.e. move the belt in a full circle BY HAND NOT STARTING ENGINE.... If its not set right then you will only get so far before it stops as a valve gets in the way... If you get all the way round twice then your sorted.

or slap a wrench on it (wedged against the floor) and turn it over briefly!!!

I didn't mean to undo the nut, I meant to actually take the pulley off.

99% of timing belt failures occur due to incorrect tensioning of the belt, if you are going to have a go I'd suggest finding someone with a Autodata book, to see what's involved and get hold of a belt tension tester.

No Sensei, i'm not kicking the mats to waste time, they have parted and I don't want to injure myself!

Some cars have automatic adjusters for the tension. Get a haynes manual and see how they say to adjust the belt tension
