So, I just signed up Mom for a contract with Vodafone
( 900mins / 5000txts / 500MB / 750MB BT-WiFi / FREE 0800,0845,0870 >£20m > £120 cashback > effective cost £10.40pm ... best available IMO )
Now, this is a regular Smartphone plan and not a Blackberry plan, for which they charge £5.50 extra and mins. get reduced to 600. But, I don't want to pay extra and Mom mainly needs a Blackberry for her gmail emails.
Now, I noticed that BB Browser doesn't work to begin with.
This is what I did [ modified from blackberryforums ]:
1- Go to http://bb.anworm.com
2 - Download the service book : Service book Anworm TCP for All Network from link and unzip to a folder called C:\enable_browser v2
3 - Install JL_Cmder from link
4 - Go to C:\PROGRAM FILES\JL_Cmder and copy javaloader.exe to C:\enable_browser v2
5 - Open command prompt and navigate to the enable_browser v2 folder, using the cd command
6 - Enter the command:
javaloader -u save net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod
The prompt should then process the command and read done disconnected. In the enable browser folder there should be a new file named net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod
7 - Enter the command:
javaloader -u erase -f net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod
Again the command will be processed. The phone should restart and show an error.
8 - Now open Blackberry desktop manager -> backup and restore -> Advanced
9 - Select file -> open and navigate to the enable_browser v2 folder on your desktop and choose the file called:
Browser_via_TCP_all_network_beta_V1.1.ipd
10 - Copy this to the phone and replace the exising file if asked.
11 - Back to the command prompt, enter the command:
javaloader -u load net_rim_bb_browser_daemon.cod
12 - Enter TCP settings. For Vodafone, it's APN - Internet / Username - web / Password - web
13 - Go to BROWSER and choose Internet Browser instead of Vodafone Live! or MDS Browser
Now, you can connect to the internet.
Go to m.google.com to download GMAIL , GoogleSearch, GoogleMaps apps
Go to m.opera.com to download Opera for your BB. It's better than the default BB Browser.
