Unhappy My Corsair AX850 D.O.A. Can any one advise ?

    Hello all,
I have just spent the last 2 hours ripping out my old power supply and replacing it with the AX850 to find out it just starts the fan, goes click and fan goes off. stripped out my other pc and the same happend when new AX850 was fitted. Talked my m8 into looking at it and tred to power just the mother board but still the same so that's only plugging the 22 pin and 8 pin and nothing. put my old P.S.U. in and it powers up ?????.
I have other products from corsair and they are the main reason i went for the over priced P.S.U. as I expected it to be the best of the best. On other forums I have tried the, putting it under load, By putting a fan on the molex and bridging power on. and yes as I have said before the same happened. I bow my head to what I have baught : Is it this a comon thing with the AX 850 P.S.U. ? As it was baught through Scan god nows how long it is going to take to get another P.S.U in my rig. I cant use my old P.S.U. now as it was prommised to a friend today for his pc. 7 years warrenty I would love it to be next day replacement but it looks like it will be forever. Can anyone give advice abot the fault ?

This is not a bitchy comment as I am looking to undersand the fault just hate being the third party, waiting game.

Try clearing the CMOS and see if the board will post.

tried in 2 pc's and with a fan and jumper cable.

    not like you yellowbeard

best bet is to return it for refund and go buy another over the weekend if you need it now.

where did you procure said PSU from.... My bet would be to exchange it if the same board powers up from a different PSU, and you can;t get this one to power anything up...

    I read it.

    1. ANY time you add a new PSU, you may need to clear the CMOS. This applies to both systems he tested on. So, if he did not clear the CMOS on either board, he still needs to try this troubleshooting step.

    2. The paperclip trick may or may not be conclusive on the AX series for 2 reasons. A. The internal fan is not going to spin up until at a 20% load due to the Hybrid Silent Fan Control. and B. A single fan may not place enough load on the PSU to get it to start up.

So, my suggestion is valid. If it fails, RMA it and either we or the retailer will replace it.

Re: My Corsair AX850 D.O.A. Can any one advise ?

never in all my repairs/rebuilds and testing had to reset the bios for a new PSU.

i would love to see some fact behind that.

Re: My Corsair AX850 D.O.A. Can any one advise ?

I have put the pus back in it's box and packed it of to scan where it was purchased. The problem is that scan have said they want to test it first this could take up to 10 days. So I have asked to get the D.O.A refunded and bought a new one today. I should get it on Wednesday because of the bank holiday weekend here. Thank you for all your replies can you be more specific about re flashing bios ? As I don't know what that would accomplish . Not to sound a t@&£ and all that just never heard that one before.

P.S. This in no way is a dig at corsair, as I like and have most of there products.

Been working long shifts sorry for getting back late.

you have done plenty enough to diagnose it without anyone telling you to reset the bios and 2 pc's. you know its dead, well we all do TBH, just bad luck with a DOA and scans turnaround meaning you have to purchase a new one to get the job done quick.

done it myself a few times and sods law when you do they turn the RMA round in a day.

just make sure they refund postage for the return trip fella.

Had my new ax 850 in for a week now. All ok, running all the time 24/7 for 7 days no faults showing. Must have been a bad one got through testing lol.

Can I ask how quiet your AX850 is? I am thinking of getting the 650 or 750 and i am wondering how loud the fan is once it spins up.

Well to be honest I have never heard the fan when it's on. The 850 is a great psu it runs the 2 x 5970 in cross fire which is really 4 gpu's. Would recommend this ax range to anyone it's just a pity the first one was a dud.

Re: My Corsair AX850 D.O.A. Can any one advise ?

Changed my rig with a new mother board and CPU . I found the I can't here the psu fan when running prime and combustor.
My h70 cooler even with the resisters In line are loud going to have to change the case fans also due to noise levels. Running BF3 on extreme works great just noisy h70 fans doing my head in lol.
