    External Hard Drive Cage thingy

    Hi,

I have a 200GB IDE hard drive which i cannot add to my current machine as the mobo only accepts SATA connections. What do you call that cage thing that you can buy to hold the hard drive to make it an external one attachable by a USB cable? Also, will the speed transfer be quite good for burning from?

    TIA,
    Adrian

    External Hard Drive Enclosures

they'll be alright to burn from.

USB 2.0 will be slowest but not that slow
    Firewire better
eSATA Best if you have eSATA connections.

    Cheers,
I dont have a firewire port therefore might have to stick with the USB. Do these things get the power they need from the USB port or will they come with a power supply too?

As BUFF says, USB powered drives are usually things like the Western Digital Passport or equivalent.

Or put a slightly different way: 2.5" drives (unless someone knows of a USB powered enclosure that takes 3.5" drives?)
