Antec 900 case cooling & cpu coolers

Got one of these on order. I believe it comes with blue cathodes/LEDs for the window so was looking at maybe a Thermaltake Blue Orb II cooler to sit inside. I dont plan to overclock (currently )

Was just wondering what people's thoughts were on this case especially with regards to noise, and if there's anyway to quieten things down. I'd imagine the fan at the top could be quite noisy.

Also has anyone fitted and air filters below the top fan (or elsewhere) to prevent dust build up? Easy job?

I have no other system specs currently although likely to be an LGA775 CPU with maybe an 8800GT or 3870XT (depending on budget)

Re: Antec 900 case cooling & cpu coolers

the noisiest fan is probably the one on the rear. the one on the top is fairly quiet

i put tights (not my own ) over the rear and the top and fan filters on the front 2.

the zalman 9700nt looks v.nice in the case

Re: Antec 900 case cooling & cpu coolers

Did you replace the rear fan with something else?

I guess tights would be the cheaper option for filtering (what colour tights to go with will be a quandary though! Wonder what beige tights look like..) - was also thinking of maybe an aluminium filter.

Zalman cooler looks nice although not sure I like green

Re: Antec 900 case cooling & cpu coolers

Umm doesn't it use an antec tricool 120mm fan at the back? (or is that just the p180/182?)
If so then they have 3 speed setting adjusted by a switch, faster=noisier

    EDIT:
I believe it comes with blue cathodes/LEDs for the window
Sorry only the two fans at the front come with LEDs and that's it. There in no side pannel fan as standard just a slot for one and no cathode tubes.

If you want it to really glow blue you'll need you own lights.

The Zalman 9700nt is rather expensive
If you want a silly looking cooler with blue leds then Asus Silent Knight II
Probably best off getting something decent and replaceing the stock fan with a Blue LED (eg Scythe Mine)
If you really want the fan faceing the window, get a ThermalTake Big typhoon and a 120mm Blue LED fan.
    Pref a ThermalTake Cyclo fan
A2450 Cyclo 12cm Blue Pattern Fan
    Watch the pritty video

EDIT: ok have to admit I quite like thoes effects, much better than the TT logofans

Re: Antec 900 case cooling & cpu coolers

It does yeah, although still 25-30dB or so according to specs.

Not sure what my current system produces (my Tagan PSU is the main culprit I think, seems to be quite loud), but sometimes I like to leave it on overnight and the noise can be annoying when trying to sleep.

Re: Antec 900 case cooling & cpu coolers

    I have one.
    It uses:

    1x 120mm tri-cool rear
    2x 120mm tri-cool front
    1 x 200mm at the top.

You dont get a side panel fan.

Set all of them on LOW and you wont even hear it and the cooling will still be amazing.

Dont bother fitting a fan at the side of the case as it will upset the air balance inside and the temps will probably increase.

i put tights (not my own ) over the rear and the top and fan filters on the front 2.
    Yeh...yeh....we believe you!
TBH...if the air flow is right, dust isnt an issue anyway. Or no more than with any other case.

Asus Silent Knight II or zalman, hmmm. Think I'll see how far the budget can stretch!

    Cheers all

Re: Antec 900 case cooling & cpu coolers

Well only Asus Silent Knight II if you want something that really looks impressive.
It's a good cooler but is rather expensive for it's performance, there are better cheaper options.
Also c2d or quad core will make a differnce as the c2d run far cooler so you don't need massive performance.

Somethinng like the Akasa AK-965 only cost around £12 and will cope very well on a core2duo chip. it's just not that glowy or intresting looking when it's in a case.

A more intresting looking cooler Scythe Kama Cross around £24, a half decent 120mm blue LED fan is aroung £8 or you can pickup one of thoes funky TT cyclo fans for £10 new on ebay

And a TT big typhoon costs around £30 and a a very good cooler
