    Coolermaster or Corsair PSU?

I've had my next PC's bits in my Scan shopping basket for a week, waiting for my credit card statement date to pass.
Well it's passed and I'm ready to order, but I now find my chosen PSU, the Coolermaster 500w silent pro modular is out of stock.

This PSU is well over-powered for my proposed system (the one on my profile) but I wanted quiet, modular, reliable and something that wouldn't blow anything else if it went pop.

So I can either stick with the Coolermaster and get it from somewhere else, or change to the Corsair 520HX modular which Scan has in stock.

My initial reaction is either will do so I might as well change to the Corsair, as both are famous, modular, quiet and have a 5yr guarantee. But I don't know PSUs, so is there anything you guys know that to tip me one way or the other?

    Re: Coolermaster or Corsair PSU?

you asked for a psu that would be good and not take anything with it, we pointed out enermax for good reason

and with you saying you dont know anything about PSU's we forgive the previous answer

    Re: Coolermaster or Corsair PSU?

Corsair 'make' good PSU's. I say 'make' because very few of the branded sellers actually make their own, they are usually made by an OEM manufacture like FSP or CWT to the required specification.

Butr teh Corsair branded devices have a good reputation and there is Corsair representation on HEXUS if youi do have problems. But as others say, Enermax is also a good PSU

The HX520 is in stock, but most of the others of a similar rating look as if they are on pre-order. The nearest Enermax 525 - but at a £20 price premium.

BeQuiet are also reputed to be good.

    Re: Coolermaster or Corsair PSU?

    Sorry if I sounded ungrateful
but I asked a specific question - whether there was anything to choose between those two PSUs.
This was because I'd researched PSUs, reviews etc and found those two that would do the job and were supposed to be quiet and settled on one of them a while back.

Having been caught out when Scan ran out of stock of the Coolermaster while in my saved basket, I just thought I'd check there was no great gain to getting the Coolermaster elsewhere rather than switching to the Corsair.

I couldn't face (and don't have the time this weekend for) researching a new model, which is why I didn't ask the general question.

So apologies again guys. I hope I don't wish I'd bought an Enermax.

    Re: Coolermaster or Corsair PSU?

Scan have sold me something recently when it wasn't in stock. Wasn't too pelased about it. Not going to stop me buying from them however.

The Corsair HX520W is a top quality PSU (built by Seasonic). You're highly unlikely to regret it.

    Re: Coolermaster or Corsair PSU?

+1 for the corsair....I have the same model and it's brilliant...I cannot hear it at all (tried on open bench too)

on enermax, indeed they *made* the best PSUs a while back (for a huge price premium), but as I've heard they are not keeping up with the competition nowadays...they even closed some of their european offices, so I would not buy their products anymore, especially if you plan on long term.

The last 525W enermax I have ordered from scan was a re-sold DOA item which is not a good sign, they were not able to replace it either (stock shortage?)

anyway, I would go with corsair or seasonic
