    enclosure case

Probably the most appropriate section for this thread, well.

Has anyone ever tried to create their own enclosure case? I have had this idea for ages and my memory was refreshed when I saw a thread linking to something what amounts to a soundproofed box with wheels which was priced at a tidy ~£600

A simple box, with a front panel on hinges that you could place your case inside to dedend sound. You could make the front panel out of glass or perspex for those of you who like to show off your case (not me). Of course for some PC's heat would be an issue. I could have bought something prebuilt from ikea etc, but looking in the catalogue there isn't anything suitable.

I think it's a decent idea, if I want to do it I will need to brush up on my woodworking skills

Its fairly simple to create your own case just plan and measure everything as many times as humanly possible

seems to defeat the point in having case ventialtion, which is the thing which creates the noise in the first place, the larger it is the more sense it makes because there is a greater volume of air to heat up and a larger surface area to dissipate the heat, but esentially you're just filling a box with hot air, which negates the use of any fans if the external temperature is the same as the case temperature.

I was going to leave the back of the case open, not closed. You could argue that that would defeat the point of the enclosure case because it would still emit noise. BUT, picture this - when I leave my PC on overnight the loudest thing in it is a seagate barracuda IV in a Silent Drive!! I can still hear it in bed, and the idea of this case would to eliminate noise coming from the front of my PC as it faces my bed.

yeh, i was going to suggest that you could just cut up a large cardboard box to leave just the 2 side panels, a front, and a top panel, attatch some noise dampening material (big bits of foam) to the inside and the plonk it over the top of your case!
