    Questions about Coolermaster Wavemaster

I got one of these this week from kustom & feel that it could do with some better cooling than the standard cm fans that came with it.

Anyone know how easy it is to remove the two front fans from the case?

Also on coolermasters website in the installation guide they show that you can mount an 80mm fan in the roof in some sort of holder - does anyone know where you get these or should it come with the case?

I bought one of these cases a couple of weeks ago and don't have any probs with cooling at all and thats with an o/c xp1800 running @ 2.0Ghz at 37idle and about 41 under load.

Anyways getting back to your question you should have got the top fan holder (mesh type thing) with the case.
All you have to do is remove the usb/firewire inputs and simply replace it with the holder.

Looking at the front of my case it does look at bit tricky to replace those standard fans and tbh I really don't think you would gain much in the way of cooling from changing them.
Your better off prolly getting a better cpu cooler if you have temp probs.

hmm, definately didn't get that holder so will have to get on to kustom about that. The heatsink i'm using is the thermalright SLK947U with a 92mm Vantec Tornado - so there's little more I can do for air cooling. I've just taken the heatsink off & re-applied some AS3.

Interesting if I take one of the side panels off my idle temps are 18oC for the case & 34oC for the CPU (BTW its a Barton 2500+ @2310, 1.75v, 210x11)

The side panel has been back on for 2-3 mins and my temps are now 25/42?

hmm, maybe I'm being a bit to fusy - just downgraded from a prommie so maybe thats my problem

btw do you have to drill out the holes for the 80mm roof fan or are those bits on the top of the case covers?

No you don't have to drill out anything, the mesh holder that you should of got use's the same screws as the usb etc thing does.
The fan holder acts like a cradle for the fan so there is no need to drill anything out, ochh just imagine drilling into that lovely ally case, makes my heart bleed that

If you look at pic 2, it shows the cradle which attach's to the underside of the roof of the case using the standard screws that are already there.

Out of interest I just took the side cover off and my temp only drops by 2 or 3c.

Like you said I think you were just spoilt before I really wouldn't worry about the temps as they sound pretty good to me.

That cradle should of been in the case along with the psu backing plates, strange that they didn't pack it with the case.

hmm don't think I've missed anything

good - like you say don't want to drill the case - just as well. I've emailed kustom abou the missing cradle will probably get back to me monday.

I have quite a bit of kit in the PC

2 x WD Raptor HDDs in RAID 0
    2 x Maxtor 120GB SATA HDD's
    DVD-ROM, DVD-+ R/RW, CDR/RW
    Radeon 9800Pro

so i think it would be fair to say they'll generate a fair amount of heat

may have to consider getting some one like coolcasemods to do some proffessional cutting for me.

have now bought 4 panaflow 43cfm fans for the case - hopefully that should help a bit.

Coolermaster UK tell me that the fan cage for the top blowhole is optional but they don't sell it! - looks like some modding will have to be done to the top of the case

    Hmm odd that

Mine came with the gage and it wasn't as an op extra, I think maybe it depends where you buy it from?

I bought mine from ebuyer, still it's a bit tight of cm not to ship em in every case box

Good luck with the modding and show us a pic when it's done.

You have to admit XTR that it's quite odd for some to have the cage & others not to have it.

Looking around various online retailers that sell the WM, I can't see any that offer it as an op extra so it seems to me that you either get it by luck/chance or not as Alistair has found out to his own peril and now prolly has to modify his own case when imho it should be shipped with all WM's
