    Not strictly S-ATA, but usually ATA and S-ATA versions of the same model have no difference in noise levels.

    A note about Seagate drives: genuine Barracuda IVs and Vs are no longer sold, and are fairly hard to come by. To ensure that you are getting the real thing, you can check the model number against those listed at http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/...acuda_ata.html

    Edit: I've found the following to be incorrect:
    The difference between the 7200.7s and the IVs and Vs is that the 7200.7s don't have fluid dynamic bearings, and are thus noisier.

    FDB is expensive to make, if I recall correctly - cutting it out reduces manufacturing costs.

    Edit: Still applicable, despite my error, I think.

    My mistake: I did some checking on Seagate's site, the 7200.7 drives do have FDB. Dunno why I thought they didn't. Was something I would have bet on. :/ Sorry about that.

    Eldren: the 7200.7's were a response to the fact that Seagates SATA drives lagged behind the competition when it came to performance. The new drives are somewhat faster, still not top dog, but better than the BC V's
    PHP Code:

    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I understand the Samsung Spinpoint drives are supposed to be very quiet. Certainly the 120Gb and 160Gb versions are proving very popular at Kustom PCs with the quiet PC brigade.
