Hard drive cooling racks

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has used one of these things:

Not necessarily that one specifically as I know a couple of other manufacturers make them but that sort of thing, the 3x 5.25" to multiple 3.5" bay converters with fans. I'm most interested in them for the purposes of making my rig quieter. If they dampen the hard disk noise that would be good and having that 1x 12cm fan to cool the disks would mean i could bin one or both of the 8cm ones currently cooling the disks in the front of my wavemaster.

Anyone used one of these sort of things then?

EDIT: PS, if anyone knows of any other companies that make these please let me know, i've seen a couple but can't remember who makes them!

I have one in my Thermaltake armour, makes no difference in drive noise, the big fan is useful for the two raptors in it, but thats about it. For a bit more silence something like http://www.scythe-eu.com/products/hd...e/SQD-1000.php that completely encloses the drive would be better.

I used the cm 4in3 in my last case a centurian 530 it was vert good with 2 drives (top & bottom) I swapped the fan out with a silverstone fm121 more info :- Centurian 530 - Poor Man's Stacker .

ive got the coolermaster stacker with a scythe silent box (the predecessor to the quiet drive, now discontinued)

when i put my samsung spinpoint in it, which is generally quiet, there was a noticeable difference in drive noise. You get used to the clicks and spins from the spinpoint, but when its in the scythe its barely audible. Saying that, the stacker module for the hard drives adds no extra noise, unless you count the fan noise on the front. However, i'd try and pick up a couple of the scythes that chuckskull pointed out, as these will silence them pretty much completely. I think they're about 95% reduction

Just hang them from elastic cord. Similar noise reduction for tuppence.
