    reset switch/clear cmos

    anyone know if the deafult 'third' pin of a cmos reset is actually used for anything other than giving the jumper something to sit on whilst its not in 'clear cmos' status? I was thinking of putting a clear cmos button on my pc and if it isn't, then suddenly its become 1000 times easier

    (assuming pin 1-2 resets cmos, pin 2-3 is 'normal' operation)

    Depends on the circuitry, but I suspect the middle pin is a common and the circuit does whatever based on what comes in (through the other two pins.) That was the worst electronics explanation ever. I think I will be the only one who will ever understand that!

    But anyway, the third pin won't just be there for the sake of it, however you could try taking the jumper off altogether and see if the system POSTs...
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    that was actually the plan. well, maybe a bit later... the third pin is either there for one of two reasons i would think:

    1) so the jumper doesn't just sit always on 1 pin, easier to bend/break.

    2) so a signal is passed to the third pin which lets the BIOS function normally...

    or a combination of both, or maybe not No 2. i'll have a look later.
