To put with a server I'm building. Any ideas in the UK? - it needs to be SATA or IDE ... not SCSI!

Add two of these (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=352332) two each side of the case and you have 12 hot swapable bays.

I've actually found another solution but I didn't realise Scan sold such a number of hot swappable bays - useful to know

But those hotswap would only make an NAS(GbE via motherboard) not a DAS (FW/USB/IDE/SATA?)

What did you go for in the end? It's something I'll have to think about in a month or so...

I'm going to use a seperate computer inside a large server case and using hot swappable bays.

Got 4 bays on their way for now (although I have room for 7), an Intel T Server 1GBps card. Will get something like a dual Athlon board or similar (second hand, can't afford Xeon or Opteron )

Assuming you have a decent raid card with onboard processing you dont really need a powerful system if its just storage you are doing.

A decent raid card coupled with even something as slow as P3 1Ghz should be able to max out the throughput of the raid array.
