    Xbox 360 freezing regularly

Does anybody else get regular lock-ups on their Xbox 306? I only ever play Rainbow Six Vegas and my Xbox 360 is connected via a wireless bridge for online games.

It's very, very annoying when you wait for several minutes to start an online 20-minute game and the Xbox frees after 2 minutes. I've noticed that it usually freezes when there's a lot of activity happening in the game. However, yesterday it froze during the countdown timer before the game starts.

My console is well outside its warranty period.

Sounds like it's on the out. Mine started that about two weeks before the three red lights.

^ Is it just a case of overheating?

My Xbox 360 is very, very noisy and has been from day one. I've mounted it vertically and the lockups are getting worse so I guess it's about to die. Oh well, I got a little over a years use out of it.

Question is have you registered it with MS? It would appear MS will give you a years warranty from the date you register it... they never asked me for proof of purchase when I arranged for a warranty repair on mine.
Not that I condone lying to corporations to get a poorly designed device repaired.

Actually, I get this problem with R6 a lot too, I don't think it's anything to do with the console on the way out, I heard it's just a common problem with online games of R6, a bug they haven't managed to fix yet.

My 360 packed up a few weeks ago and I wasn't half annoyed. However, a quick call to M/soft and they arranged for it to be picked up by a courier PDQ. I had a newly refurbished 360 in just over a week. Fair enough the consoles shouldn't be breaking down but M/soft have excellent customer services.

The lock ups are a sure sign of imminent failure though unfortunately. Luckily i had my PS2 to tide me over when mine gave up the ghost.

    Nope, sadly.
Its the boards bending due to the heat. This in turn causes the solder to break their contacts.

Yeah the fix is to overheat the 360 even more XD Works quite well though apparently.

But as I said before, this is just a problem with rainbow six multiplayer, lots of people get it. If it never happens to you in any other game, or in the R6 single player, you're most likely fine.

For me it tends to happen at the exact moment I get shot or die, I think it might be connection related, tried doing a T-hunt with some guys, froze in the first round, went around doing T-hunts with random other groups, all fine. Opened my player list and went back with the original group since they seemed like a good bunch, froze again in the first round. Tried again, froze again. Gave up after that.

Which is why I stand mine up to minimize that from happening and blow a fan onto back of the mobo side of the casing and keep it running for a few mins after I turn the 360 off . Yes I am very paranoid about it failing; but I will only really worry when I see some red lights show up. Owning a 360 and almost expecting my expensive investment to fail is almost comical to me personally.

It's even funnier to me when you have a Mario avatar

I think that with R6 it might just be the disk, if its not just it try positioning the 360 where it will bet good ventilation, on its side/flat and raised up to see if anything helps

This is exactly what i'm getting - it's on R6 only (although I hardly ever play anything else). It's only ever online as well. It's also during a heavy shootout. Hence, it might be game-related. I'll stick PGR3 in tonight and see if that freezes online.
