    Re: Shall I?

If it was my choice between the 360 and PS3, i would wait though, given that the HDDVD offer with 5 free films is due from MS anytime now and in theory the bundlge with a pile of new games would make it the same as a PS3.

I wasn't in the same boat as my 360 uses Component so i will really need a pro version to go to HDDVD when the drive offer comes in.

    Matt.

    Re: Shall I?

    hi
I was a big playstation fan as were many but there was no chance i was gonna shell for a PS3 at the initial price on release. I havent got a 360 so am yet to jump into this new generation of 'next gen' consoles.
I have recently been casting a speculative eye over the various deals available and have found myself getting tempted.
Having said that various things like cash flow, impending christmas deals and lack of games has stopped me jumping head first into next gen gaming and finally retiring my PS2 i bought on a heady day back on release day in 2000. Oh to have cash to burn again
I have been looking at the 60 gig consoles but i have been reading through various sources that sony are phasing this out in favour of the cheaper 40 gig. Once the 60 gig versions are sold there will be no more. My question is really, like many others, is now a good time to buy before any cheaper qaulity versions begin to filter through.
Also will there be an 80 gig version? I guess this would be more expensive then the current consoles.
Sorry for the ramble, i'm just umming and arring whether to snap up a 60 gig now or in the next few weeks so i don't get lumbered with a poorer choice on inferior quality machines.
    cheers

    Re: Shall I?

the game selection on the shop shelves today is still infinitely better on the 360 than the ps3

if you want a blu-ray player, then the ps3 is a reasonable buy. if you want a media machine, then to my surprise, the ps3 is also a good buy (streams things flawlessly from mythtv, for example). low noise? reliability? ps3 is on top.

but for gaming? xbox for the time being

I wouldn't call the 40Gig poorer or inferior, they may have fewer USB ports (buy a hub if you need more) no card reader (buy a usb card reader, then plug it into the hub ) no PS2 compatability (no big loss really) and "only" 40Gig hard drive. If you have no need for PS2 compatability then the 40G is the one. Plus if you need more harddrive space, just swap out the old drive and put a bigger capacity one in, its very simple to do.

Surely tho by the time you have bought a usb hub, a card reader and a bigger hardrive you might as well have just spent the extra £50 in the first place?

On a seperate note is there going to be a new premium console when the supply of the current one dries up?

    Re: Shall I?

Good point, i think i'd probably get the 60 gig for the price difference and quality of bundles
I find myself looking into PS3 details and threads everytime i'm on the internet now. It' never a good sign and almost always results in my buying whatever it is i'm researching at the time.
One probablem i have at the mo is that i have a stand def tv, i'd have to get one at a time. Will playing games on stand def be truly awfull/unplayable or bearable for a few months while funds are recouped?

I'm in the same boat, i'm looking at it though from the pov that when i get the hd screen it will make the PS3 feel like new again....does that make sense?

    Re: Shall I?

I like that way of thinking You've sold yourself on it haven't you really!
As long as it is useable/enjoyable enough i can live with it for a reletively short period.
The more threads across different forums i read the more i am 'scared' into getting one of the 60 gig versions before they are all sold out.

There is an 80GB PS3 model which will replace the 60GB model. Just a bigger hard drive.

    Re: Shall I?

I've gone and done it, i got the 60 gig from Argos using the voucher scam. The guy i dealt with at first was wise to the scam and said he couldn't except any vouchers bought in the this way for this console package. Head office is wise to it i presume. So instead I had to buy £100 from that store, get my brother to buy £100 and then go to my next nearest store get my bro to buy another £100 and then i went and bought it. Quite a pallava but i didnt want to be lumberred with £330 of argos vouchers and the deal ends tommorow. All there is bound to be another come along.

    PS3
    One controller
    Resistence
    F1 Heavenly Sword

I'll probably trade most of the games, the F1 is what i wanted really

effectively £320 in total but i got a 3 year warranty which was £35 but they took £10 off that with another voucher

    £345

must set the bugger up now

Grats on your purchase - don't worry is very easy to setup.

Just remember that as well as your main account - set up 2 more accounts 1 each in Asia and US so you can download their PSN content as well. Ratchet and Clank: Tools of destructions is ace
