    USA Xbox 360 in UK

    Hi all

Got a mate who just came from abroad to study in the uk, and he’s brought his Xbox 360 along with him. However his Xbox is from USA so obviously it runs at a different voltage.

This may sound like a stupid question but I was wondering would it work in this country if he bought a new power supply? If so where can I get one?
    Cheers

The power brick would probably deal with it if he just used an adapter. Don't quote me on it though.

Most likely a switch mode powersupply, so should be able to deal with 100-240v usually. Have a look on it, see if it has the specs as that will tell you.

Re: USA Xbox 360 in UK

Had a look at the power brick- it states input AC 100-127v Output DC 203W

It sound like I may need a step down transformer- as the input AC in the uk is 230V (I think).

He'll need either a step down transformer or a UK 360 PSU, no idea which will be more cost effective though.

Re: USA Xbox 360 in UK

Have a look for you, couldn't find anything like a new Xbox 360 PSU, but found this instead

    Xbox 360 Energyzer ATX Power Supply - £12.99 : thegametrain.com

A proper 200W (More like 250~300W accounting the efficiency loss) step down transformer gonna cost quite a bit
Maplin > Portable UK to USA Auto Transformers

I think switch mode power supply have a PFC of about 0.5, which means you'll need 500~600VA conservatively to keep your xbox 360 running. This one is probably not enough even at 300VA.

Of course I have no idea how much power a 360 actually drain. If my memory is correct I think I read a value somewhere which says 176W. (which means 350VA)

I have a maplins nearby so I might just head down there tommorrow and ask them if they have a step down transformer capable of powering an xbox 360. If not I might consider a uk 360 power supply but I have seen them go for about £40 which is quite expensive.

By the way this mate of mine also goes imperial. Nice uni

One of my mates went of to Vegas last year for 3 months and took his UK 360 with him so it should be possible.

I shall check with him later today and let you know what he used to get the console working.

For my jap console i brought a uk power brick on ebay about £55, but also i have a maplins converter 300w doing nothing.
I will gladly sell it and post it if you have trouble getting hold of one, cheap as well cus it's no use to me.

Cheers, but would a converter work the same as a step down transformer? According to this website (link below) I need a transformer as a xbox is an electronic device, and converters should only be used with electric devices.

Re: USA Xbox 360 in UK

Sorry my bad, wrong wording, it is a step-down transformer, exactly this one below, (and the one from your link 300w)

Maplin > Portable UK to USA Auto Transformers

I originally got it for my jap 360 and it worked fine but i ended up getting a uk power brick.
And i got no more use for it.

Re: USA Xbox 360 in UK

I think there's a bit of confusion going on, i've used the transformer on the jap360 and it worked fine, its 300w because i believe the 360 uses about 250w of power, it is def maplins and 300w and i've def used it.
I think the 360 elite uses up to 500w so your need a 500w if it's an elite.
I'll photo the transformer tonight and post a couple of pics so you can check it out.

Thanks I was getting confused, from the information I have gathered the normal xbox 360 uses about 250 watts hence a 300 watt transformer is required due to efficiency losses, etc.

    Its a normal xbox 360.
