    ps3 media steaming probs

i have a ps3 and have set it up to media stream from my pc ( xp pro) the ps3 will see the pc as a media server so will connect to it no problem. the problem i have is that i have loads of original dvds i want to put on my hdd so i can stream them to my ps3.
i have been using fair use to convert the films to avi format but all i get is the "unsupported" error from the ps3 so i asked a friend to try doing some converting using his pc (also xp) .when i transfer the film from his nas drive to my pc and stream them to the ps3 it works every time. i thought the prob would be codec related so we looked at the codecs installed on both pcs and they are exactly the same, this has left me scratching my head as i have no idea why his pc will produce a working avi and mine will not.i have done lots of reading in various places and tried many things but i still cannot produce a working avi. i have checked his avi and mine in g spot and it says both are using the same codecs. i really need some help with this .

Wish I could help chap, I run a mac and have used EyeConnect with my PS3 and it works brilliantly. All my Macbook Pro's music and photos available from the PS3.

Out of interest, have you tried encoding the DVDs as a high quality WMV?

    Re: ps3 media steaming probs

    Hey Oddjob,

I had this problem, the way i resolved it was putting the files that were not working onto an external HDD.. They wouldn't work on the HDD that had the Vista installation on.

    Also,

The PS3 won't play a new file found via the WMP Monitoring unless i delete it from the library and then search for the file again.
