360 HD Drive plays games? How quiet is it?

Since these things are dropping to stupidly low levels I though I might get one if I can put my normal games discs in.
Reason being I could then hide away the 360 to get rid of the noise, it'll save on wear & tear on my internal drive & *hopefully* the HD addon is quieter than the normal drive

Anyone know if this works & how quiet the drive is?

The HD DVD drive is purely to play back HD DVD films, not games, and not DVD's either. If the noise of the xbox 360 drive is getting to you either you have it on a surface which gives off a lot of vibrations or you don't have your sound up high enough

bugger, oh well never mind! (although I've read it can play DVDs)

The normal noise isn't too bad but as soon as a disc spins up the whirring/whoosing is unreal! It's laying flat & on a flat surface, no vibration noise just the bloody drive!

it upscales normal dvds iirc but certainly doesnt play games
