Re: Microsoft Screws Self for future gaming?

    1. Can the PS3 stream your movies, music and pictures over to the console without any special OS software installed? YES! Can the Xbox 360? NO! (You need a Windows Media Center OS to do this)
Not everyone has that OS and can afford it.

WRONG. I can run all my movies, music and pictures direct from the consoles media tab. To run my avi I downloaded the patch, about 1MB, and away I went. Spot on.

2..... Ahh, couldn't bothered reading anymore to be fair. Do whatever you like to your PS3. Just wait for it to crash with some n00bs hacked softwear or something. If the device is locked then nothing can get on and corrupt your system. And if it does then MS will cover you. Sony won't do that.

Plus, everyone I know who has both platforms say the 360 is better for games. Full stop. And now with MS supporting BluRay there really is no need to invest in a PS3 - .
    My 2p worth.

I don't think we can quite say that yet can we? A blu-ray drive is a long way off for the 360, I'm not sure it will ever come with MS pushing their download services. There are rumours of a blu-ray add-on coming in May, but nothing concrete.

I think your post could bring this thread into disrepute rather quickly.

Re: Microsoft Screws Self for future gaming?

That rambling is truely awful. I'm a fan of the PS3 by a long shot over the 360, mostly because its better build quailty and feal, hdmi, quiter fans, upscaling dvd playing etc.

But on the user generated content front the PS3 is, and for the forseeable future will be behind the xbox 360.

XNA allows people to develop their app on the PC, run it on the PC, test it on the PC, then transfer it to the xbox with little hassel. Developement tools are free, and proffesional ones (source control etc) are available. A veritable mirraid of languages can be used to develope in.

In short this guy really missed the mark with plenty of his comments.

as for the media remarks. you still have to install a uPnP client, thats compatable.

Re: Microsoft Screws Self for future gaming?

That article was badly spelt for a start.

Secondly it seems like a fanboy wrote it, doesn't even look at what most people use their gaming consoles for.....games!!

As for HD gaming...a 360 is a HD games console, just the medium is not high def, yet games still look very good, Blu Ray just means the code being read does not have to be as well polished and higher quality textures can be used.

Well, I was only going off what Ballmer said. And you can't say that a blu-ray drive is a long way off, as know one actually knows. Though if (though most likely when) the BD drive arrives then I think that will sway a lot of peoples purchasing decision.

I think it's great that MS are 'man' enough to go with the competitors hardware. It's a basic business move. I also think that while they are pushing their digital download service not everyone can use it yet (very few i'd guess). And that currently blu-ray is now the beset way to get HD content. Not until high speed broadband becomes the norm, rather than the exception.

I'm not completely dissing the PS3. It does look fantastic and has good qualities, like dvd upscaling, but most of the fanboys are using that as a pointer to it being a better machine. They miss the point that the Xbox is the better games machine.

Finally, I was also going to say the same as TheAnimus, finlay666 and spazman. But I won't repeat what they so eloquently put.

    Yes. Very much so.

If people feel the need to defend the honour of a bit of electrical gear they own, they clearly don't have enough of a life away from said item of electrical gear.

    Well 360 ones COULD

Except in programming for them they can't due to the fact that not everyone has a hard drive to speed up the loading times so has to make it the same for everyone IIRC

iirc load times for the game in question (devil may cry 4) are only a second or two faster on the ps3 post-install than straight off the disc on the 360

I think thats right for DMC4

I was talking about Prey (The people that did the 360 version are pretty local to me, had a chat with one of the designers about limitations they have of working on the 360 with regards to Dled content e.g. maps for games)
