Just read this about the reasons behind all these ps3 installs, Its the Blu-Rays fault...tut tut!!

MTV Multiplayer » The Mystery Behind PlayStation 3’s Sometimes Mandatory Installations

I'm sure they will find a way round it, i cant see installs happening for much longer.

I found that a really fascinating article, but tbh I don't mind about installs if it will make a game faster, whats an extra few minutes, I've been accepting 30min + installs on PC for years, the installs on PS3 are a breeze compared to that. Just got a 250gb drive in so disk space isn't an issue either.

I agree. I don't see what the issue is with installs? What makes me laugh is one of the comments in that post. Just be thankful you don't have two different installs of GT5 installed like i currently have (Jap/UK) i know that when i need more space i can just buy a 250Gb or more Hdd and not get shafted like 360 owners do

I am a new PS3 owner who bought in because GT5 Prologue was just released here in the UK. I never knew anything about these installations until I got my machine and I have to say I was appalled that this game ate up 6GB of my tiny 40GB drive.
All i can say to that is, try doing the same on the 360's 20Gb hdd, or should that be 13Gb (just using normal premium as example)

You can't please people all of the time.

Re: the mystery behind playstation 3's installs !

This install stuff really is such a non-issue.

The missus just got Everybody's Golf on the PS3 (she loved the playable demo from PSN) It had a install time of approx 15mins. Guess what, she spent 15mins to get a cuppa and sit down and read the game manual. End result - during the game there is hardly any load time what so ever. Sounds fine to me.

Why do people complain? Do they buy games to spend the time playing, or spend all day installing/uninstalling/installing.... lol

Like others above have said - most have a larger disk now days anyway (250gb here as well)

250gb here as well, i personally dont mind installs but i think they will find a way round it, with all that storage available on Blu-ray its a shame you still have to install.

Even if they manage to find a way around it I would still like an option to install, I'd much rather the faster loading times with an install than slow loading times. Also I imagine it is easier to patch a game that is installed than one that runs straight from the blu-ray.

Whats the ideal model for a PS3 hard disk upgrade? (ie what are you folks using?)
I'd prefer quiet to speedy myself.

Re: the mystery behind playstation 3's installs !

I'm personally using Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Haven't really noticed any increased sound which is good And it is recommended to go for a 5400RPM hard drive because thats what ships with the PS3. Any 5400RPM SATA Hard drive should work fine though

And you can bet your bottom dollar the folk moaning about the installs would be the same folk moaning if there wasn't an option to install

Re: the mystery behind playstation 3's installs !

I really wish the 360 had this option on titles like Mass Effect - the combination of disc thrashing and loud disc drive gets really annoying at times. I'd also prefer it if it could cater for user installed hard drives like the PS3. (Yes, I'm a 360 owner but there's no reason it couldn't be better)
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.
