Question The Wii Browser on an LCD TV

    Hey,

I'm looking to replace my crappy CRT TV with a nice new LCD one by the end of the year . I was hoping that an LCD TV will make the text in the Opera browser a bit sharper and more readable, does anyone know if this is the case or is it still a bit fuzzy? I think the Wii is only capable of 480p but surely thats better than a normal TV?

Yes it does make it slightly sharper but you need a Wii component cable to get 480p. Despite being sharper it is by no means great, you will still need to zoom in to read a lot of text.

TBH I only use the Wii browser for getting iPlayer going on the TV.

I only use it for pr0n.

No, sorry, I mean the iPlayer. I only use it for the iPlayer. Absolutely

(seriously: my wife uses it to get Postman Pat episodes to keep son entertained while she's cooking. It's great for that).

I've never tried iPlayer so i'll have to give it a shot.

It's a shame the browser doesn't improve that much, hopefully the wii2 will take full advantage of a HD resolution like a massive LCD monitor

The component cable is well worth getting if you get an HDTV, games look a little sharper too. The Wii was never meant to give you easy web browsing, but it's a nice extra for getting online vids up (YouTube isn't bad on the Wii either ).

Mine's running on a 3 year old plasma (42) but the text isn't great. As mentioned, lots of zooming.

Still OK as a lounge browser though.

Re: The Wii Browser on an LCD TV

I've just purchased a 32" LCD, should be waiting for me when I get home tonight - I wasn't planning to hook the Wii up to it though, my guess is that it'll look better on my standard smaller 480p TV. Would anyone agree / disagree?

Re: The Wii Browser on an LCD TV

The text should be clear on a LCD or plasma TV. Remember to amend your wii screen settings
