    Dear Sony, Please fix....

Recent PS3 convert and I'm so far loving it. However, there's a few baffling things I don't get.

    1) The store - Ok, not the whole "USA has it, why haven't we?" (but they can fix that too!) but if GT5 can give us a teaser trailer of the game before I download it, why can't every other producer? I don't have time to read a gazillion reviews and your mediocre description of the game isn't going to win me over either. Demos are fab (Every company should do them!) but equally, a video stream may tempt me to try the demo.

    2) So, I can download from the store in the background, so why the hell can't I copy files over in the background? I bought my PS3 to be a media hub - 320GB went in from day one, but whilst I'm copying stuff to it either via the network or from a directly attached USB drive, can I play a demo? Watch it fold for Hexus? Nope, I get to watch a progress bar that makes a Windows progress bar look deadly accurate!

    3) some sort of folder explorer. Ok, slightly limited in appeal, but whilst doing my upgrade, I did a friends as well. Now the odd thing was that my 5GB of data on my 80GB drive became 10GB when I restored it on the 320GB. What's using what? Who knows! Then the only way we could get my friends drive to backup was to strip of virtually everything! You ever tried deleting 99 out of 100 saved games? "Select one, invert selection, delete", heck I'd even settle for "drag and highlight, delete" but no, you have to hover over, triangle, delete - 99 times! When we finally got his 40gb down to 21 that too expanded to 40GB on the 320GB we put in his - what's that all about??

I'm sure I'll find a few more over the coming days, but these 3 strike me as stuff that, unlike say, adding Mkv support, the functionality is already there in one shape or another.

    Hi Jiff,

To expand on our previous reply: No - the fact the PS3 has these annoying facets is a planned and intentionally implemented strategy that showcases the longevity of our platform as it takes users longer to understand it.

I think it should show some screenshots of the games you are purchasing on the info page for the games. Also better compatability with video codecs, I have to re convert all my video files that I have on the PC (legal stuff like my dogs and the kids birthdays etc) before the PS3 will play them.

oooooohhhhh, way below the belt that one. I recorded them out in the snow this morning, it was well funny, got a Staffie and an English Mastiff. Its like David and Goliath!!!

But I record the kids birthday parties to put a damper on things. I converted an avi file to PS3 format this morning using the PS3 video converter which is free to download and the PS3 recognises the file but says its corrupted. Think I'm going to give up trying to stream media to it.

Have you tried using PS3 Media Server?

    Re: Dear Sony, Please fix....

No more GT5 Demo on UK servers, heard it was still available on Japanese servers.

Also apparently you can get URLS to download the game files directly.. and put them on your PS3, but don't think Sony like the idea of that.

you know what? I think I'd like a Console made by

    Jiff, TiG, and Ferral.

Jiff for the OS, because everything he says, is right, with user love, ease of everything and common sense.
TiG for the depth of interconnectivity, with everything, working on day of release and 1000% bullet proof (and prollly voice activated everything)

And Ferral to play test everything, so I got only good games,

HEXUS.CONSOLE... by the HEXUS CONSOLE TEAM
    Bring it ON!

    ^^

I would buy one of those.

I got mine as a media hub, but tried using the internet for BBC's Iplayer, and the like. My god, I would rather eat my own eyeballs.

So if you guys could get on with building one

    Re: Dear Sony, Please fix....

    Oh to build one....

I'm convinced that most of the people developing stuff own two CD's and a single DVD. Apple, Microsoft and Sony are all guilty! Seriously guys, I've 300+ DVD's and at several thousand Audio CD's, try your media solution on something like that!

The PS3 OS has genuinely left me disappointed; I can't believe that in this day and age, it simply cannot multitask the most simplest of things. Even the famous "download in background" actually means "download whilst your browsing the store, but dare to do anything else and I'll pause it".

I've got to the bottom of number 3 rant; Apparently the Sony format tool reserves 10% of the drive for the OS. So, on your 40GB PS3, the OS has 4GB, an 80GB has 8GB, and my 300GB has 30Gb. Now which Einstein at Sony R&D thought that particular gem up?
