Quietest Xbox 360

I have a launch console and it is ridiculously loud compared to my friends elite. It is so loud in fact, that it is totally unplayable at night since I have to turn the volume up so loud that it wakes up my family. I have a 20gb hard drive, which is actually plenty for me (only keep a few demos on at a time, no videos, music, pics or anything) so I don't think I'd need even the 60gb hard drive, nevermind the 120gb!

Is it worth selling this xbox (just the xbox and cables, no hard drive, controllers, etc), and buying the premium console (or is it worth getting the elite?), so it is quieter and I can use HDMI?

tl;dr... what is the quietest xbox, and is it quiet enough to switch over to from a launch console?

You can pick up an arcade quite cheap now, and if you're lucky it'll use the new jasper chipset which has 65nm CPU/GPU and opposed to the 90nm on your Xenon lauch console. Meaning you should have a quieter, cooler console. The model (Arcade/Premium/Elite) doesn't affect the sound/heat produced.

Hmmm.. my launch console is near silent and my Jasper is the 2nd loudest I've had, the loudest being a Falcon. My mate who picked up a Jasper at the same time as me has an absurdly loud machine.

It's just down to luck wether your console is loud or quiet from my experience.

I think there might just be something up with my console, because it is actually ridiculously loud. When a disk is spinning you can hear it in the next room even if the doors closed!

I might pick up an arcade console, then sell the one I've got. I could just stick in the memory unit I get with the arcade, throw in an old controller and a couple of games I don't play...could make maybe, £80 - £100 for it? Then an arcade will cost be £125 and I get a brand new console with HDMI, new controller and 5 arcade games for maybe, £50? I'm considering this... .

Sounds like your drive is on the way out, same thing happened to me a few times.
I just sent the console back saying it was unplayable due to the noise level and MS replaced it without fuss.

Well, it's been like that for nearly a year, I think if it was on it's way out.... it would be long gone by now .

I bought it off ebay, can I still send it to microsoft?

If it's over a year old then your general warranty period is now over I'm affraid.

Tried holding the front of the disc tray to see if that vibrating is causing the noise?

Also have a launch console which is much quieter than the 2 newer ones I have. Not sure what revision the 2 newer ones are, 1 has a HDMI port the other does not.

Maybe I only sit less than 3 feet away from my 360.

I have just got hold of an Jasper Pro to replace my old launch model and the Jasper is even quieter and seems to run a fair bit cooler as well Very happy with it indeed.
