So that if you have a mate round you can both play online at the same time

Would be great for games like COD, Red Alert etc..but sadly I have only found sports games that let you do this. Even Civilization doesn't, which was a real dissapointment (Not even any local MP there)

Split screen in strategy games? You'd both be seeing the other side's assets, not to mention where and when attacks are to take place. Can't see that being a whole lot of fun, why remove the strategy from a strategy game? Battleships without barriers

Now, split screen in something like Prototype (PC) using two controllers, yeah I'd dig that. I wouldn't imagine it getting much usage though and it's probably not viable when weighing the additional development costs against sales - if it were, we would surely see it more. Too much of a niche market I guess.

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Not an issue if you play co-op Plus with games like Civ being able to see other peoples civilizations is not that big of an issue due to how the game plays.

Admittedly yes its less fun if playing Vs mode i'm sure, but would be nice to see it as an option for at least co-op play..

Resistance 2 for PS3, 2 player online co-op problem is the second person doesn't gain XP as they can't technically log into their PSN account their just along for the ride. Still is good fun.

Ah see I assumed you were talking versus mode - you didn't mention coop. In practically any RTS (or turn based) you're controlling multiple units across an area which you can't see all at once (or isn't practical for unit manipulation at that scale) - you jump around all over the map whilst micromanaging. I don't really see any benefit with split screen even in coop RTS, I'd be losing a portion of my display thus restricting my ability to micromanage - just jump to see the other player.

Supreme Commander (inc Forged Alliance) does have split screen (I can have three views split across two monitors - two on primary, one on secondary). If you and a mate wanted to team up against AI in a skirmish or online match, you could have one of those focused on his assets (umm) and the other on yours (or with three, you could have the third focus on the enemy). You'd need to manually control the "cameras" but the option is there. Personally, I rarely use the three view option, two is sufficiant with the secondary used as a large global view. If I only had one monitor, I wouldn't split it

I don't think World in Conflict has split screen but it does have multi-monitor support - you could make good use of that in a team game. It does take a hit on the hardware (obviously there's more pixels to play with) but NVidia's multi-monitor SLI support has been rock solid for me.

Edit: Sorry, I hadn't noticed which section this thread was in and my reply is largely PC focused. In my view, Supreme Commander, etc, should not be played on a console, the interface and input method is rarely suitable.
