Does anyone else have the '4RROD' controller problem?

For a while now sometimes when starting my PS3 (slim) up the controller just flashes the 4 red light, my bluetooth remote (all official) doesn't work either. If I plug the controller in via USB it works but then stops when unplugged.

There seems to be a growing number of people with this problem & to clarify a few points:

    - The battery is fine.
    - A reset of the controller does NOT help.
    - It is NOT user error
    - It is NOT interference from WiFi
    - This happens if I start by pressing the PS button on the remote or controller, no difference.

The only way I seem to get it work work is by powering on with the physical button on the PS3 rather than by using a controller, what's strange is that it WILL start up when you press a PS button but then doesn't register after that!

Some threads here, here, here and here

Seems that Sony aren't doing anything about it just yet, it's pretty frustrating to say the least!

NB/ I know it's not really 4RROD, more like 4RLOD but it's not as catchy

Yes lots of folk on the official PS3 site have the same problem with the Slim and the controllers. Sony are aware and have issued a statement they are working on a fix for it. It happened with the last firmware update but only to the new slim models. You will have to wait until Sony get their finger out of their arses and release a new working firmware update.

It's a strange one, works fine if you turn on via the console rather than controller but it's nice to not have to do that!

Ooh I'll need to look into that. Think I'll take the safe route & wait a week to find out if 3.15 has any issues before updating though!

According to posts on various forums, the latest update does solve the controller problem - unfortunately there's nothing on the offical PS3 blog to confirm it though.

Re: Does anyone else have the '4RROD' controller problem?

It happened to me the other night and i was thinking my slim was on its way out. Got it working by rebooting manually. Will grab the new firmware tonight and see what happens, it did seem to start happening after the previous firmware update.

Re: Does anyone else have the '4RROD' controller problem?

I've updated but only had the chance to turn it on once with the BT remote, which went fine. Not exactly a guarantee of success but a good start.

I can assure you it's not just the slim models, I have a 40GB PS3 and its's been happening to me for months now.

My controller will keep flashing until i plug it in with the USB lead then it will assign itself, I can then proceed to remove the USB lead and it will be ok.. i think it's got the hump cus i dont use it any more (fragfx ftw)

That's what happened to mine, well at least until Sony killed it with a firmware update. Happened to many people with the 3.15 update, and still consoles dropping like flies since. Sony want £150 for them to look at it and SEE if they can fix their problem.

    Will never buy Sony again.

Happened to me this morning, which was extra annoying because it was in the middle of recording MOTD. The only recourse was to hard reset and disturb the recording
It's not something that happens regularly though, thankfully.
