Xbox with RRoD, should I sell or repair?

My xbox has the RRoD and is out of the 3 year warranty, ah. I want to sell it, do you think I should split it and sell everything individually (broken xbox, 20GB hard drive, 2 controllers, about 10 games, different cables, etc) or send it to microsoft and get it repaired (£60 I think) and sell it as a bundle?

I see consoles with RRoD going for about £20 + p&p. If I repaired it, then I'd need to sell it it for over £80 to get my moneys worth, which doesn't look very easy.

Also, if I'm selling it how should I clear the hard drive? Is just delete my gamertag and such enough?

You have another option, which is to repair yourself. It's not 100% guaranteed, but the Exceuter RROD repair kit seems to have done a good job on one of my consoles.

It's a placement kit for the X-clamps that hold the heatsinks in place, designed to be a perfect fit for the 360 internals. You then "bake" the console by switching it on without the fans connected.

Though, to be honest, after repairing I played a few hours of Dead Space without issue, and got the RROD on the intro to Mass Effect 2. I've "baked" it again, but have yet to try it out to see if the repair worked.

It's only about £15 for the kit so could be worthwhile.

Re: Xbox with RRoD, should I sell or repair?

The thing is, I still want to sell it even if I get it repaired. I don't want to repair it myself and then somebody buys it and it RRoD on them again. It's a launch console with noisy fans and a noisy drive. If I paid to get it repaired I'd probably get sent a new console, but I don't know if I can even be bothered with the hassle. Thanks for the response, sounds interesting but I think I might just sell it as broken.

Any idea on how to clean the drive of personal info?

Go to the system blade and then select memory.

Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?

Would need to do this on another xbox though, as my doesn't turn on . Will that format the drive to factory settings? Will it keep the new dashboard or revert back to the original one?

Flog it as RROD & sell the rest. That format will do factory settings, think it'll revert to the NXE.

Are you getting another Xbox/PS3? Consider trading in your remaining stuff, CEX usually give the best price & a local Gamestation will give +£1 on anything they are offering less for

Nah, probably going to get a new graphics card as this one is on the way out.

Was planning on selling the lot separately on eBay?

You'll lose 15% to Paypal/eBay before you've even posted them, always have to bear that in mind

Ah I know, it's a pain in the ass. Might advertise the games and controllers on here, the ones that don't sell I'll trade in. Will put the actual xbox on eBay though, since I doubt there will be many people looking for a broken xbox on here .

You might be suprised, as mentioned you can fix em for £15 so it's a good little project for someone

Re: Xbox with RRoD, should I sell or repair?

Last time I phoned up to get my 360 fixed that was about march last year and that was £80... I got a brand new arcade in the end.

I think your best flogging it as broken or get a repair kit and see if you can extend its life any further. Could swear I saw an elite on here being sold dead cheap a week or two ago.
