I bet that guy is in tears who bought a PS3 after asking about them a few weeks back.
I was planning on buying MGS1 today as well :(
The worst part is the total lack of communication, at this point I'd expect they have a pretty good idea of what went wrong. They should at the very least be letting users know of any potential risks there have been to their private and personal data, even if they can't give an expected timescale for the psn coming back online. The official news sources on the blog, twitter and facebook have been terrible. There's also been all the fanboys saying "oh, its a free service, stop moaining". What about the plus users that pay a subscrition? There hasn't even been communication to those users to let them know if they are having this downtime added to their subscription.
I'm really disappointed in Sony this time.
Still no PSN..... this is getting ridiculous and I am thinking if it will ever come back!
Since there's no MP in MW2 for me, I am off to downloading HALO1 ... bring back the good old days... muahahaha
seen the upate:

they have ad all our data stolen :(. hopefuly they did not get credit card info too
permission to say oh cock
Yes, just read that. Great!
Now we really know why PSN has been down - PSN was hacked and info stolen and a security form had been investigating.
Can\'t believe what i\'m hearing today...
Fudging pathetic TBH, both the response and apparent lack of protection in the first place.
I think they are going to get completely sued over that!
Pathetic.
Absolutely no excuse for a company like Sony to allow this to happen on this scale.
I really hope the passwords were hashed at the least.
So what does this mean for average Joe like me? I never bought anything over psn but I do use love film etc
No chance mate. Sony have been sending details in URLs (ie CC #s) in plain text for a while now. If they have been doing that, then you can bet that they haven't haven't hashed the PWs at all.
Even if they have been hashing if they haven't used a a salt then it's all for nothing. and judging there security by the fact there "random number" was hard-coded i don't hold out much hope.. if sony have been sending cc details in plain-text then the PCI will come down on them like a ton of bricks and will hold sony directly liable for every cent that is lost as a result.
Unsure. if love film uses there own code for payment processing (most likely) nothing. i would expect they would release a statement shortly regarding this.
