iPlayer for PS3: how to get it

    Lo people

Having had to reset a PS3 twice and now with a replacement one, so a third time of setting one up this month.. I have spent no small amount of time trying to find iPlayer.

The internety is AWASH with how to find it. From "it'll just pop up one day" to "go to the iplayer website"... all wrong. It's also NOT downloadable from the Sony shop thingy on the PS3.

It IS installed with PLAYSTATION HOME.

ie.... even if you don't want to play in a virtual online world...

Go to PLAYSTATION HOME on your Sony CrossMediaBar (XMB), and agree to install PLAYSTATION HOME.

IF it fails to load once it's downloaded, (I got a purple screen.. total PS3 lock up.. re boot PS3).. use the green button on your controller on PLAYSTATION HOME and choose un-install and then choose to install it again (I had to do that twice)

Once it's installed, you'll find iPlayer back in the normal section of the XMB where it should be.

    You can thank me now

Re: iPlayer for PS3: how to get it

I was wondering where mine had vanished to!

Quite a while ago after a system update, it went from my PS3. I had a quick browse for a few minutes in the store and various other places then just gave up. Granted I couldn't really be bothered to look for it hard, as I just used my computer, but I do miss having it on the TV.

    Thanks Zak

Re: iPlayer for PS3: how to get it

I KNEW someone would find this helpful

it is a sod to find. especially if, like me, you have no interest in wandering round in a virtual world... where no swords are allowed

now that it's in Hi Def for some programs and now that the normal def is better than it used to be anyway.. its 100% worth having

It makes you wonder why Sony make it awkward to find - its a really selling point for the console, especially when they're often situated outside of the front room

Re: iPlayer for PS3: how to get it

Bought myself a PS3 last week whilst it was going cheap on Sainsbury's. Didn't have to jump through any hoops trying to find iPlayer though, found it listed under My Channels in the TV/Video section along with ITV and Channel 4's apps.

Is someone making hard work for themselves or have I missed something?
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.
