    Connecting PS3 to Windows Server 2008 RC2

I've got my media library in shared folders on the server, but I can't connect the PS3 to the Server.

I've done a google, but nothing I've found has worked. I've tried "PS3 Media Server" and TVersity, and neither have worked.

Has any solved anything like this?

    Desktop - i7 930, XMS3 6x2GB DDR3, X58A-UD3R (rev2), 2xHD5870 1GB (CrossFireX), Crucial C300 64GB , 2x2TB WD Caviar Green, Corsair 650TX
    Notebook - MacBook Pro 13" i5 Early 2011

The OS isn't particularly important, as you're not trying to utilise the shared folders feature of Windows. To connect the PS3, you need a streaming service that operates outside of that. PS3MS or TVersity should both work - you just need to configure them properly.

Stick with PS3MS imo since it's designed for the PS3, and has a much quicker interface than TVersity. It will be a problem with the configuration. I've used it successfully with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Server 2003. And TVersity for that matter.

What you need is a uPnP Server application/service which will host your media which can then be accessed via a uPnP client

I'm running Windows Home Server 2011 which is pretty much under the skin Server 2008. I'm using PS3 Media Server, in the settings have you specified the IP address you have assigned to the server(statically I'd hope) I found that it simply didn't work if I hadn't. Another easy mistake is to not add the folders containing the media you want to share. PM me if you want, I have a setup that is working across multiple devices!

Re: Connecting PS3 to Windows Server 2008 RC2

With mine under video I just use the Media Server and access the shared folders. It can at times though stutter as the framebuffer isnt overly big on the PS3.

What I have done though is bought an access point (disabled wireless) with most of my devices going into that and then into the router via homeplugs (Router is on 1st floor of my house at master socket and media stuff is on middle floor hence the homeplugs). Kind of makes everything a wired connection and the streaming works much better.

I think that was the key. The set of instructions I was using were pretty poor and ambiguous.

I've got PS3 Server working now.

    Thanks all.
